Tonight was a prime example of how important pitching is. For holding them down...and for morale. We basically were the mid-week TIGERS after Walker went out...and you could feel the air let out. How freakish....we put in Pocge after Lange because we thought Walker was good to go. That resulted in us being completely screwed when Walker went out. A bizarre occurrence. That affects everything....including our bats. You think the Beavs score 14 with Lange on the mound (or Poche...or a healthy Walker???) Then...we Got a shot...and mentally we are on. I believe this team has the ability to do more....but pitching is the key to it all. I hope Walker can come back, but it isn't looking likely. One at a time. Let's take care of FS Wednesday.....

So then why didn't we go to Poche after Gilbert? We don't have the pitching to beat FSU and then OSU twice. After Walker went out early this game became a must win.

No losing Walker was the death sentence for us in Omaha you have to have 3 solid starters now we're down to 2. Even if we beat FSU and Lange were to go Friday and win we can't beat OSU with the other pitchers we have.

OSU would have scored a lot more on Lange Saturday than FSU did. He was wild as shite. 1 run isn't going to win in Omaha.

You thinking this is an option means you shouldn't be allowed to post on anything baseball related anymore.

Leave it to the bama fan to bring up colt McCoy from 2009 as if it's relevant to Omaha in 2017.

Poche only threw 30 pitches on Saturday. He could have given you 3 innings and turned it over to Hess.

Pitching is important no doubt. But Gilbert came in and did great for a few innings. I think he could have gone further without some of the miscues.

Im sorry if you cant see the relation bt a qb and a pitcher, and how rare unforeseen injuries take hostage a game plan. Did you play NCAA sports?

You have almost zero chance of winning the tournament if you lose the 1st game. I have no problem with us using Poche to make sure we had a chance. Especially since Walker has arguably been our 2nd best starter the last month or so. He had been so good and so tough, that I think the team had incidence they could count on him. And as correct as the decision may have been(I don think I would have done it) and as unfair to him as it may be, I think the fact that he took himself out of the game threw the guys off. It wouldn't have been one thing if his arm exploded on the mound and he had to be dragged off looking at Tommy John. They could have rallied behind that. The way it went down was weird and you could see it made the other players uncomfortable. Did anybody even talk to him the rest of the game. Just seemed like a weird vibe in the dugout after that.

And then, in a close game, your Senior team leader, who came back specificically for this tournament and after having some of the worst at bats of the season, boots a ball that leads to 2 runs. Bad mojo. Made us have to pull Gilbert who was having a nice outing up to that point, Peterson eventually comes in and turns mental midget walking everybody, booting an easy inning ending double play -and giving up another run. Finally the senior closer comes in in a weird situation for him, grooves one, it gets squared up and carried way farther than expected.

Point is, it was a weird game. You play enoughbof them, shite happens. Unfortunate time, but put it behind you and move on. Poche beats FSU Wednesday, Lange beats OSU Friday, and our Johnny Wholestaff--who all have experience pitching on that mount in that stadium--has as good a chance against there's as they do ours. Just gotta win 3 games in 5 days. Daunting, but doable. Can't afford any turds like tonight though, obviously.

My question is, why are we so thin at Pitcher? OSU loses their ace and is not affected at all. Our retention rate sucks, losing so many pitchers, like Latz and Marshall.

How about instead of writing a book you just write LSU wasn't ready at 1st pitch and got abused in the first inning even with OSU putting up only 1 run?? It just got worse when the E's, walks, and total lack of hitting commenced for LSU?

You needed to save Poche just in case something like tonight happened.

Whatever happened to overcoming adversity? I've just been reading and not posting. All I see is "we don't have the pitching," "we can't beat this team twice," blah blah blah. We've just been punched in the gut. It sucks. The getting up is up to the team. I hope they don't share the mentality of most of the posters on here. How much greater is triumph when it is achieved after going through the fires of ugly defeat, when all the cards are stacked against you?
