With the addition of Jamal Adam, Ed Paris, John Battle, and Devin Voorhies, a once short-handed secondary line suddenly becomes a little crowded and loaded with top talent. While that by no means is considered an issue, it does lead you to want to scratch your head when trying to predict what will be our secondary line-up next year. I mean, the talent that these new kids possess almost makes you feel guilty to not put them on field early. That being said, our current starting corner positions are manned by two really competitive sophomore, and I do not see either of them being easily beat out. Jalen Mills also showed his ability and instincts to play a Brandon Taylor type safety, so that might be his position next year. The only realistic way I can think of is to move Tre White to the nickle position while moving Jalen Mills to FS. White can be a lock down corner most of the time, but his height (5-11) and weight (177) limit his effectiveness against tall, strong, athletic WRs in the deep route (watch the Auburn game for example), so letting him cover the slot receiver might be a better fit for him. Having him moved to the nickle back allows us to put Ed Paris (6-1, 198) on opposed to Robinson.
To put it into perspective, here goes my prediction for the secondary depth chart:

By the 1st game vs Wisconsin:
CB: Rashard Robinson (Sub: Jalen Collins)
FS: Jalen Mills (Sub: Rickey Jefferson)
SS: Corey Thompson (Sub: Jamal Adam)
CB: Tre White (Sub: Ed Paris)
Nickle: Dwayne Thomas (Sub: Jalen Mills)

By the game vs Auburn (6th game):
CB: Rashard Robinson (Sub: Jalen Collins)
FS: Jalen Mills (Sub: John Battle/Devin Voorhies)
SS: Jamal Adam (Sub: Corey Thompson/Devin Voorhies)
CB: Ed Paris (Sub: Kavahra Holmes)
Nickle: Tre White (Sub: Dwayne Thomas)

Let me know what you think about this line-up. I would love to hear your thoughts and predictions for our secondary next season.

Both look about right to me.

I think Jefferson will be a little better than expected, though.

Why is Rickey Jefferson off the depth chart by the Auburn game?

Not all of the true freshmen are going to come in and take spots from guys who have been here.

Tre White was a 5 star too, remember? And, he played pretty well for a true freshman. He will only get better.

Jefferson looked really bad in the Arkansas game at the end of the season and was replaced if I recall. If he does not get better, then he will get buried not only by Mills, but the new guys if they come in looking more comfortable at the position.

I bet you fawned over last years recruits as well. What indication do you have to think white will lose his job? He stared as a true freshman and was also a 5 star.

Lets let the recruits finish high school before we give them all sec honors.

I'm not sure if we see 2 true freshman break the starting line up once again. White is 5'11 but that's not exactly small for a CB. Both him and Robinson will be much improved. I also want to see Thomas blitzing out of that nickel spot. He was pretty disruptive more than once.
I do see Adams getting a lot of PT though.

No matter what this will be a fun bunch to watch!

Yes, some are you have ridiculous expectations for incoming freshman. Yes Adams is a stud but if you had Cory Thompson or Jalen Mills playing safety in high school this year at their current status, don't you think they would be high 5 star recruits? Point being you can't expect a kid to come in and take a talented juniors spot even though he may not be an all american

Mills and Thomas both have shown that they deserve to be on the field. White and Robinson will be much improved. A shite load of new talent coming in. This is gonna be good.

@ true freshman taking over a future All-American at CB to move him to nickel.

Do you even think before you hit send?

Yes for some, but a lot of folks don't have low expectations for him in the base case.

You totally left Ronnie Martin out. He'll at least be in the 2 deep to start the season, if not a starter.

Nice try. I appreciate the thread, but I'll give you some starting points that I'm positive of.

1. Tre White and Rashard R will play two more years and be off the NFL draft board before round two is over. No one in the 2014 class is going to take their spots.
2. Mills is gone after playing CB next year. He is a prototype for an NFL CB. We need three great CBs on about half our defensive plays. The three will be Mills, White, And RR, probably in that order. The infatuation with RR (I'm in that club) is due to his ostentatious man-to-man coverage. There is much more to the position. It would not shock me if RR doesn't start next year. But for sure, Mills, RR, and White are the top three CBs next year.

Since you brought it up, I'm going to bring it up again to laugh at OP.....

The OP took Tre White out of the lineup in SEC play.
