Trying to get LSU fan insight on Trent Johnson
I have been to every TCU home game this year and have been able to watch TCU under Trent Johnson so far.
We are 8-5 but haven't beaten anyone good, a soft non conference schedule. Just blew our best chance at a Big 12 win on Saturday, and according to this site we will go 0-18 in conference play: LINK
We are worse than last year, but that's because we lost an NBA point guard and our 2 other best players from last year's roster, and lost our best returning player to an ACL tear in the 2nd game of the year. So we basically have had only 7 scholarship players all year. Almost no offensive talent on the roster, a bunch of role players but no one who can create their own shot or command respect from opposing defenses in either the post or wing.
Also Johnson's pace is molasses slow, believe we are in the Top 10 slowest teams in the country. I have no problem with this, because you have to play the pace according to your talent, which we have none. The style may not be exciting to watch, but we stand no chance in a track meet. He also seems to be a hard nosed coach, always screaming at our guys to hustle off the floor when they are subbed in, for example.
Apparently he is bringing in some highly regarded recruits next year though, and Devonta Abron a transfer from Arkansas, our best player at the moment, is a sophomore.
My question I guess is what Trent brings to the table. Is he simply a recruiter, is he a good Xs and Os guy, what can we expect after this expected disaster of a season for the future? Will he just bring our program up to a decent level, or will he even be able to do that?

Here's a list of what he brings:

It will end in crushing disappointment.

Thank you for hiring him away from LSU.

Trent is a good X's and O's coach and an abysmal recruiter.

At LSU he had his best year his 1st year and then steadily ran the program into the ground. He often didn't fill recruiting classes and slow as molasses is just his style from what I've seen.

To call his style of ball 'boring' is optimistic.

Trent is a good guy
Bad fit for LSU
Did not recruit
His assistants were terrible
Boring style of play but I can't say it doesn't work because he has had success elsewhere
Sometimes you need to turn your players loose and when he did LSU thrived
You never really saw any personal side with him but again Trent did it his way and I can respect that
Just not the best fit for LSU and I think this would have been his last year at LSU if TCU didn't come along

I dont hate him for what he was trying to do at lsu, but he seemed either lazy on the recruiting trail or just flat out couldnt get it done down here in the south.
His whole mantra was building the program around players that would be here for 4 years. But lets face it, you need those nba caliber guys if you are going to make a run. or shite even get into the tourney.
He def tried selling that to the fans and i think its why so many defended him for so long. It just didnt work out. Add the fact that football and baseball reign supreme rt now, his style wasnt getting butts in the seats.

Tnents brings nothing to the table and tcu taking away trent was the best thing that happened to lsu sports in 2012.

still getting paid based off what the Lopez brothers did for him

If he can land some good recruits and talent he'll be solid for a few years. But he can't maintain that success or keep people interested in the team. I kept giving him "one more year" but he never turned it around. I didn't want to fire him last year, but he made the choice easy for us by leaving

Let's make it a trifecta for TCU. Hire coach stud as OL coach and hire Javi Sanchez as hitting coach
