I am attending the Cubs game on Friday. It starts at 1:20. I'm guessing we will be rolling out around 4:20. Besides hell on Earth as far as traffic goes, about what time do you see it backing up heading towards Milwaukee on I-94? DYSWIDH-two instances no less. Any help would be appreciated...concerning alternate routes etc.

You'll hit a lot of traffic.

ETA: there isn't a whole lot in terms of alternate routes. My advice to another poster was to park near the Kimball Brown Line station so you have easy access to go west on Foster to hit I-94. Take the Brown Line from Kimball to Southport and walk to Clark Street bars / Wrigley Field. When going back to your car, hop on Kimball-bound train and get off at Kimball.

Traffic at that time of day on a Friday in Chicago will be terrible. Unfortunately, there's really no way around it.

You could park up north and take the train down to Wrigley.

It will be bad when the game ends. To go to Milwaukee you will most likely take Addison to the Kennedy (I90-94) North to Milwaukee which becomes the Edens (94) toward Milwaukee. The good news is that you will be North of Downtown.

It all depends on how well you deal with traffic. There are really are no quicker alternatives to the get to Wisconsin by car. Remember the Edens becomes the Tri-State Tollway (94) to Kenosha which means you have to pull over and pay unless you have I-Pass.

I've taken the drive before North and it isn't that horrible if you are not in a hurry. If you are not used to traffic then you may have issues with it.

Traffic is worse the further you get towards the 90/94 split (and even past it). Being north of downtown Chicago, based on your suggested route, does not matter a whole lot in terms of traffic.

Part of the reason I recommended parking near Kimball is the train is relatively quick to Southport (about 15 minutes), he'll miss all of the traffic on Addison after the game by taking the train north, and parking near Kimball allows easy access onto 94 via Foster. He'll still hit traffic once on the interstate, but at least misses all the traffic at/before the 90/94 split.

ETA: me guesses that traffic will be amplified on that Friday of Labor Day Weekend. Many people that reside in Chicago have lake houses in Wisconsin (i.e. Lake Geneva) that requires you to take I-94.

What you is true. But you have to remember many Louisianans have no concept or idea of public transportation and how the trains work and will literally freak out if this is their first time taking trains.

You and I would do that, but my guess is that they will drive regardless of what advice you give them.

You can use the I-Pass lanes even though you don't have one and pay online. Just remember what stations you pass thru. I do it at least 1 a month.

Why not take the train to Milwaukee? Rush hour is unbearable at that time.

Take the L or uber. Driving in Chicago is about as bad as it gets.

Ridiculous - The parts of IL he'll be driving through all have higher income than any part of LA save for like 2 zip codes in New Orleans (Garden District, French Quarter.

The unasked question in this thread. Will Friday rush hour post Cubs game traffic be as bad as Baton Rouge on a Tuesday at 3 in the afternoon? We know it can't be worse, just looking for a comparison here.
