Guys, teams that run 70 percent and are successful are going to run less plays than teams that run hurry up and throw it 54 times. However, the team that runs for that many yards will control the clock.

Ive seen a lot of confusion here about these things and i hopeyou can all understand this. LSU offense was on the field longer than the defense. The defense, not in game shape for a hurry up offense, got gassed but a hurry up rapid playcalling machine. Not dufficult.

Yeah, the offense didnt convert as much as a homer would like, but they led in TOP and ran for 263. Oh...and won

Oh...and won because we got a lucky Delay penalty and the kicker over compensated for his hook.

a couple of minutes earlier, LSU led 21-6.

The clock matters, but not as much as scoring points.

It's sports, luck happens. We got good lucky right there, but we also scored 5 TD's and only 3 counted.

Aaaaaannnndd LSU scored more of them. Also, a kicker missing a 54 yard field goak, in college, isnt LSU being lucky. That kicker had a career long of 40yds and had missed more than made career-wise.

Penalties happen. If you're going to say LSU is lucky bc of that penalty then you have to say that Miss st is lucky that LSU had 100 yds in penalties that killed drives and took away scores. You cant be selective. Make sense?

Are you saying that a team that runs the ball more will run fewer plays than a team that throws it with all things being equal like yardage? Because no, just no.

Also ToP is not nearly as important as plays run because who cares how long you hold it as it relates to game time. I would rather run 20 more plays than the opposition than hold it for a few more minutes. If you hardly throw the ball the game clock is continuously running. Incompletions of course stop the clock. However if your defense is on the field for 5 game minutes defending 8 rushing plays or 3 game minutes defending 8 passing plays what's the difference?

But the coaches were calling plays like the other two TD's did count. That's the rub.

Maybe you could bitch about the four penalties that cost us two TD's and about 200 yds of offense...

Not a possible combination unless you are Oregon on a complete roll running a play every 10 sec...

2-3 more min of TOP might get you 8 more plays unless you are just throwing incomplete passes...

Exactly. Yes, those scores would have been great, but they didn't happen and you have to adjust.

I think you know what I was trying to say. I would rather be extending drives and running more plays than just having the clock run for ToP's sake

OK so let apply this rational fully..

How many plays did we get penalized for that could have put more points on the board. So, by this logic MSU is lucky we did not have 21 more points on the board.

Clearly MSU was luckier than us...

Moral victory i guess. Penalties happen, get over it and score another way.

Otherwise we're sitting on the edge of our seat hoping this skinny kicker forgot to eat his wheaties this morning.

so now we're lucky when the opponent isn't competent enough to execute

Good thing we used it up and scored more points than the other team.
