Well, he said something positive about LSU, so he is by default now a great and revered journalist who really knows his stuff.

If he changes his tune, he's a fricking hack.

"I saw an LSU team that lost 10 juniors to the NFL Draft that is now better than it was at any point last season"

Because your offense is better doesn't mean your entire team is better, that hasn't been determined yet

Well that isn't what he said either.

I know it's not what he said, it's what I said.
I think it's tough to say that the team is better this year when both the defense and special teams haven't looked as good.

Maybe, but he's not necessarily and LSU hater either. He's had some good things to say about us in the past.

uh, why? at this point we don't know how the season will unfold, but it is not a stretch to say the offense has improved more than the defense has regressed. Sum of the whole of its parts, etc, etc.

I would agree that the defense hasn't looked as good to this point, but how has the special teams not looked as good as last year? Last year our FG kicking was terrible. We haven't tried many this year, but haven't missed any yet (4-4). We have given up one kickoff return for a TD, but since then most of the kicks have gone through the back of the end zone. Wing sucked last year and our coverage this year has been just as good. Beckham housed a field goal and has had several good returns. Opponents are averaging 1.2 yards per punt return against LSU this season.

Not as much as Keehn has sucked this year.

whole team is better because offense is better. no way this team would play a game like 12-10 auburn last year. when you can't score (last year) then every game is a potential problem. not so this year.

Last year - meh offense, great defense
This year - GREAT offense, good defense

The special teams is not nearly as important when the offense is converting third downs. The kicker has been fine and the punter hasn't even needed to punt. LSU's return game with Beckam Jr this season has been better as well.

So how is this team not better? The defense is still loaded with incredible talent all around.

But actually what has been fdetermined for sure is that the LSU defense is not as good as it once was, (and by a good margin, in my opinion.)

Brad Wing - 44.8 yards per punt in 2012
Keehn - 39.4 yards per punt in 2013

Last year teams averaged 3.5 yards per return.
This year teams are averaging 1.2 per return.

Compared to what he did in 2011, Wing sucked last year. Comparing 2012 to 2013 the stats are pretty much the exact same so we didn't exactly lose much in the punting game.

Little-to-nothing has been established at all. Our offense LOOKS better and smoother. Our defense appears to have a couple issues.

We've played 4 games, against competition ranging from decent to terrible. Let's just wait a little bit. This Saturday should tell us a good bit.

Barnhart is a UGA grad. Well known throughout the southeast. Helluva football writer. Has 2 books called "southern fried football". Great historic trek through SEC/ACC programs. Should be in anyone's collection of coffee table/bathroom sports reading. He is objective and knowledgeable as they come. Heis sports editor for the ATL journal. Does some sports radio here in ATL. He has so many irons in the fire when it comes to southern football. He also co-hosts a really good show on cable called "Talkin Football". He does not blow smoke and calls it like he sees it. Does terrific work.

pretty much everything higgins just said, except I'm pretty sure he's not at the AJC anymore. I believe Tony only writes for cbssports.com now.
