I have lost those concerns unless he proves he can , even with a somewhat depleted core of players have guys step up and make plays...

Case in point, Battle IV goes down and Syracuse goes right after his replacement and scored a TD...

I don't doubt his greatness and ingenuity but feel the better play at this time is to build a great defense that shows up at least motivated and builds it back, then maybe when Coach "O-eaux" is flanged gets the LSU program HC position possibly...

Believe what you want but right now regardless of the reasons his star is losing its luster....

So he is doing what you want and he is losing his luster with you. Hmmm. Interesting

The defense has legit reasons for poorer than normal play.

I can't speak for everybody, but I believe this "concern" is probably the least of my worries right now...

He's afraid to go exotic with the youth... but his schemes could mask that (or make up for) that youth.

Something has to give... either he gets them coached up faster, or he takes the risk with the schemes.

ETA: it MAY be the case of letting perfection get in the way of good. He is a perfectionist to a degree.

I'm leaning towards this angle.

If anyone thinks Aranda is a bad DC then let it sink in your heads how bad this defense would be with Steele still here. He's doing everything he can on a team full of freshman with no depth in the front 7. A lot of young guys on these defense are going to be studs in the future you can already see it.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not we're rebuilding and so far not doing a good job with it if our current upcoming recruiting class is any indication. Mediocre class that hasn't addressed our largest problems.

He can go. He's not earning his paycheck so far this season

I think many fans expect supermen and want to fire them when they end up humans.

This is the toughest conference in college football. Give it a chance to grow before you want to kill it.

If by the end of the season it looks like a defense "on the cusp", not one manned by high schoolers, he's more than earned his paycheck and more.

There's talent there. If he turns "talent" into "skills", aka development, he's doing his job.

What do you suggest I do? Take a knee and link myself arm in arm with all those, probably like yourself who have given up on the season...

I defended this country in war to speak my mind and no punk like you will silence it...

They didn't go after Monroe, they isolated Delpit trying to cover Jackson's zone who was getting beat on a trick play.

The hell are you talking about?

Steele may have been given a bad rap, I know I dogged him. But he is looking pretty legit

The most concerning aspect of the defense for me right now is tackling. Basic tackling. Sure, we look out of place on occasion with some missed assignments but even when we are in the right place, we can't get the first guy to make the tackle.

Look at the LSUSports highlight clip and look at the last highlight where Taylor and Thompson both have the Syracuse QB in their grasp for a sack and still he slips out and lunges for 4 more yards.

That's happening all game long. Those 3 and 4 extra yards add up each play and keep the defense on the field more than they should be, opening up opportunities for more blown assignments.

If I remember right, Delpit was caught between two receivers headed to the end zone and was looking in on their QB to judge which one to try and get to. One had a step and half over ???, the other was wide fricking open.

Two things...
1) with two WRs headed to the end zone, no way Delpit should have let them both get behind him.

2) whomever blew the coverage on the WR towards the middle of the field is the one who put him in a no win situation. I think, not sure, that was Monroe.

Never did I say he was losing his luster with me, and he hasn't....

My point was his luster may be waning in the eyes of those who saw him as an immediate Head Coach...
