Seems to me when you have a QB that is raw and needs some safety-blanket pass plays, you put in a few short passes to big tight ends who can use their bodies to shield a defender and make the catch - even if the ball is not perfectly thrown. Also, tight end quick-release plays develop more quickly so a QB need not overthink it too much or get happy feet.

Great tight ends make young inexperienced QBs look good, complete some easy passes for short gainers, and settle into a rhythm.

And, so I am told, we have some superior and large athletes at tight end who coudl be used in this fashion.

Where is this part of the Offensive Gameplan?

LSU hasn't used a tight end to do anything other than block in about 4 seasons.

Might as well just recruit another O-lineman and slap on a #80 jersey and call him a "tightend", because thats all they do on this team.

I'm astounded by any TE willing to come to LSU. I mean what is the pitch, "if you come to LSU, you will have the opportunity to block more defenders than you can shake a stick at."

Tight Ends...do what have those? All we have are glorified lineman. The pass catching TE (Smith) is standing on the sideline. We recruited him knowing he flexed out in HS, but now we want to turn him into a blocker? That's BS if you ask me, and sad to say, he and Washington might need to explore other options.

We tried. They fumbled and can't catch too well. We have better options than throwing to the TE such as our RBs and WRs.

It's sad to see Smith standing on the sideline. Travesty really.

misdirection/waggles are some of the easiest completions to make with TE's....with a team that loves running the ball it should be a staple of our offense since most lb's are going to flow towards the ball carrier. I am convinced our staff isn't capable of implementing these plays at this point.

BS on this shite...our WRs have dropped passes and we had a RB fumble the ball.

IMO, TE involvement in passing is the hallmark of a great offense.

Isn't that the truth. Baltimore extensively used TEs. Todd Heap and Dennis Pitta thrived under Cameron. Yet another example that suggests Miles is the architect of the offense.

i know. The thing that gets me is Auburn and Alabama used ti kill us with misdirection plays to the TE. You would think there would be more input by all the coaches on how to move the ball on teams and it seems like our DC would say "hey lets use the TE they will never see it coming". LSU needs to do a better job of self scouting the predictability of its offense.

the TE's were heavily used. in 2014, baltimore doesn't use the TE's as much. just shows you how much influence cam had over the game plan and play calling.

Might as well just line up another tackle out there. All Les thinks they can do is block, and not very well at that.,

this offense doesn't try to "fool" anyone. miles wants to physically assault the other team like a battering ram with the RB's. I guess he thinks it's still 2011.

I mean, it worked then, why not now?

Cam coached Antonio Gates during his time in San Diego. In 2004, Gates had 81 catches for 964 yards with 13 scores. In 2005, Gates had 89 for 1101 and 10 scores.
I know blocking is important, but damn, will you allow that to keep Smith off the field?

That is what makes it all so frustrating. CLM acts like its not honorable to finesse opponents. The goal is to possess the ball and score...last time I checked at least.
