The west upper side expansion was only just beginning when I shot these images in August 1975 (I was 3 months old at the time, in case you're wondering). I ran across them when looking through old slides. The last image was shot a couple months later when the big crane went up. Take a walk down memory lane...

I would love to time travel and walk around LSU's campus at that time. Those are really cool pictures.

In the second picture, just to the left of the yellow umbrella, is the entrance to the dorms (Yes, I said dorms!) that were there at the time. Go through that entrance, and the first dorm room to the left was my room, #101. What a dump! I got out into a real dorm after one semester. In the second picture, is the gate where we (Tiger Band) entered the stadium. Good times, then!

Looks like a stately oak got chopped in the second one.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

Those were still used as dorms in those days I think.

Very cool pictures. Thanks for posting.

I believe they were used as dorms until the mid-80s.
They were definitely dorms in the early 80's, I had several friends who lived there.

OK, so I fudged a little.

I lived in West Stadium in 1971, along with 4,393,628,104,865 bugs. No A/C. Didn't even have a fan. Yeah, those were the good old days.

ETA: I lived on the 5th floor. No, there weren't elevators either.

So we were kindred souls, huh? I lived there in the fall of 1972. Turned on the hot water in the bathroom once and a moth flew out!

I got out after freshman year. Remember, freshmen had to live on campus back then. The old "screw the new guy" mentality. Us poors had to live in the stadium and eat the rancid food on the meal plan. I once cut my lip on a stale piece of bread, no lie.

Same here. My first choice was Kirby Smith, second choice was Graham Hall. Instead, I got West Stadium. Second semester, I transferred to Old Graham, and it was heaven compared to West Stadium.

My room was farthest from the showers, and walking back to my room from the showers, my feet would pick up so much dirt from the concrete floor, that when I returned to my room, I had to clean my feet off again!

My cousin lived on the third flour if I remember right. I had a doctors excuse so I lived off campus. Those cranes and the pile drivers were a headache.
