This National Championship or bust mentality...

I am fully convinced this is shared by everyone in the LSU athletic department. All the way from Alleva (who needs the stigma of his frick up last year off of him), to Les (who is willing to bring back T. Valentine which is not something in his previous nature at all). That guy is viewed as a potential monster to what Aranda would be able to do defensively. Only helps the cause.
The hiring of the assistant coaches, Cameron on the sidelines and relative chance at offensive changes, the chance of a $2.7m bonus for Les in particular, etc...
LSU is going all out to win this year. Not that they always wanted to win...but this has a much different feel to it. I for one hope it happens. Because Geaux Tigers and stuff.

Maybe, but our fan base is pretty retarded. We'd be pissed going to the movies and not getting to finger the girl.

He needs to. This is that planet and star alignment year that only comes along once in a blue moon. Our talent is peaking while most of our competitors are rebuilding from large graduation and draft losses.
I have fallen into the trap of thinking the last several yrs (since 2011) that LSU had really good chances at NC's when they really didn't. The secret to this is not what our talent level is but what does your opponents have as well. We had a lot of great players but never built the full team due to premature NFL losses. This year we have the edge on all of our opponents.
That is not just me saying that. ESPN FPI for this year shows LSU favored by large margins in all of its 12 games. Contrast that with Alabama which is only favored in 10 of their 12 games (not favored against LSU and Tenn). FPI don't win games but it makes the point I was making above.
Tigers Rule!

I like your post.
But I wholeheartedly despise the championship or bust mentality. This is LSU, there is no "bust".

So making improvements is considered winning at all costs - which is truly your contention?
How about LSU football is just trying to get better and stop there?

As Tiger fans we must pray for the best but prepare for the worst.

That's the problem. A portion of our fans think no one else has any business winning a title. They talk shite about how bad their coach is and that anyelse would do. They tend to forget their are a lot of good coaches with good talent. Out there.
It's not like, get rid of Les and everyone else in the country is going to stop paying big money for coaches and stop recruiting. The next guy is going to have to bust arse too, the coach 20 years from now will have to bust arse.
LSU isn't the only school that recruits well and likes football.
