This draft proves one thing to me

no matter what the damn recruiting rankings show, LSU simply doesn't recruit well enough to sustain draft losses and still field a team capable of competing for the SEC every year. we have to depend on returning juniors.
this is not a knock as there are damn few teams in the country that can do this. early entries hobble the vast majority of programs.
we just did not recruit key positions on a consistent basis, mainly the front 7. of course the QB position has been beaten to death.
having said this, I think this year should be a great year and hopefully we will have enough depth to be very competitive in '17 also.

That's the same with every SEC school with possibly one current exception. If you lose the lion's share of a talented junior class to the draft, one you were expecting to be senior leaders, it's very likely to have a negative impact on your program for a year or two.
Ask Auburn and Florida fans. Ask Arkansas fans.

Yes the wheels came off last year. That is s bad sign to me. Lsu has been a great program for 10 years but the last three years has been underachieving .

I am sort of amazed people still look at it this way.
Recruiting rankings/*s are rankings of how they expect a player to perform going from high school to college football. Using this 3-5 years down the line for the nfl is insane.

quote:Not to me, mainly because of how young they were. Despite previous player losses LSU still had juniors/seniors on one side of the ball or the other. Last year LSU was young on both sides of the ball. The defense stepped back and the offense stepped up from the previous year. Had the defense been up to par as they usually are LSU doesn't look as bad and probably beats Ole Miss or Arkansas.

sorry, mr poultry man, LSU has not been dominant or in the SEC for 10+ years (ending last year).
we really struggled at the QB position and managed to lose to Bama for 5 of those 10 yrs ye speak of. like it or not, we've been a real good team just not a great one. even our '11 team had to rely on the greatest special teams in the history of the game to win the SEC.

Did the wheels really fall off last year?

We lost 3 games. I'm not sure the wheels fell off. Whether we want to admit it or not, Miles has done a pretty good job here. He's never won less than 8 games a year. Maybe 7 once but never had a losing record. Many programs go through ups and downs and have losing seasons. We have yet to see that, even with losing so much talent in some years. We're fortunate. However, Miles need to produce this year with the wealth of talent we have coming back. Probably the best in his tenure here. Geaux Tigers!

Did you read this before you posted it. it's a 14 team conference, right? How many teams do you think can be dominant in a 14 team conference?
Even if this made sense it has no impact on the post to which you were replying. How does it affect his point whether 0, 1, or 12 SEC teams are dominant. He simply points out that LSU does not recruit well enough to sustain the early departures. And he's correct.
What this draft proves to me is that the coaches did a poor job recruiting in '2012 and 2013. And they did a good job on in-season coaching with the experienced talent they had last year.

Well, we were non-competitive vs 3 SECW teams in a row. So I'd say three of the four came off and we had some loose lug nuts on the fourth.

LSU record over the last 10 years:
101-30 77% winning percentage
54-26 in the SEC 77% winning percentage in the SEC
name an SEC team or CFB team that can match that over the last 10 years?

Now give me the win % and stats from the last 4 years please.

37-14 72% overall
20-12 SEC 62%
20-12 SEC 62%

Op is spot on. It's a whole lot delusion in this thread. Minus 2011, LSU has been a peach/citrus bowl type of team since 2007, so I don't get the dominant over the last ten years statement. Dominant teams play in the BCS bowls year in and year out.
