I would like to remind everyone that had ole miss not given up the ball to us on several turnovers late in the game that our near comeback would have not happened. Those interceptions occurred after we were behind and after we had already failed multiple times to run the ball.

I noticed the philosophical change after we took an early lead against Auburn. We tried to start milking the clock and then struggled to go back to passing offense. We were very fortunate that we were able to reestablish an aggressive offense after the first half versus auburn.

its not just play calling, its a mindset. Our defense came out great against ole miss, but when our offense failed to establish an early lead, ole miss had time to make adjustments AND remain balanced.

When you're a 22 yo QB and your down to ole miss before your coach even starts to call aggressive routes, you're gonna go for the deep route because you're pissed your down to an inferior opponent.

I do not blame our defense that much because they gave us the opportunity early to make ole miss give up. I commend chavis for bringing many db blitzes in this game. There were times when Wallace just made great plays. That last drive was from a rested, full strength offense that had nothing to lose.

I will say this about our defense, our dts do not get pressure. It looked to me almost as if they were keeping the inside lanes closed instead of pass rushing which leads me to believe chavis does not have enough confidence to spy with an lb.

Believe it or not, I see a lot to be optimistic about for the future.

With Lamar Louis in there, this defense was an entirely different animal against the run. Pass coverage was improved but not perfect. Give the two true freshmen some time to learn the next level skills, like turning their heads and finding the ball at the last minute, and we've got two new shutdown outside defenders. I'm not as sanguine about the dline, though, just hope everyone stays for the senior year and gets a little stronger.

Offense is going to be a lot of question marks, but the line is pretty good for as young as they are. Hope that Anthony Jennings comes along as expected and replenish with the awesome recruits we're courting, though, and we should be very solid.

Les Miles is what he is. He can be terrible at times, but he can also get it done, too. He's not Mack Brown...yet.

I am sympathetic to the OP. But he has over thought it.

There are only three things that were learned last night.

1) Sometimes 19 year-old kids take the night off. It is inexplicable why they do. They are 19 or 20 or 21. When your team does this you probably will lose - especially on the road in the SEC.

2) If the QB throws 3 interceptions and your team scores no points in a half of any SEC game your team is going to lose nearly all the time. This has always been true. What else is new?

3) If your Defense cannot consistently defend 3 and 15 3 and 9 3 and 8 then your team will lose.

We learned nothing new about our team. They are incredibly young on defense.

Why are so many people surprised?

Why are so many ready to quit on the team and the coaches?

It stinks they lost a winnable game, but nearly every team does.

I chose to love being an LSU fan and look for the team to improve as it matures on the defensive side of the ball.

I disagree. I think the biggest thing we learned was that our defense of the previous 1.5 games was really an enigma more than a change in direction.

Knowing that I still think Bama game could be pretty tight, but Les has got to get back to the "sling it" style offense that kept us in the Bama game last year. A&M will be a shite-show that will make fans of LSU's defensive prowess over the previous 10 years want to curl up in a fetal position in a dark corner somewhere.

I learned that Ole Piss has a shitty band.
That their parking situation is way worse than ours.
That Old Piss sells something in their concessions to their people and has the nerve to call us one.
That the LSU game for them is their superbowl.
That Ole Piss likes flower arrangements.

Lsu had multiple turnovers on the road and even tied the game up late in the 4th quarter. Lsu fans just need to stop being such pussy bitches all the got damn time.

Number 10 is spot on IMO, talent can only take you so far, eventually you have to get a great coach. Les is a good coach and will continue to win at LSU, but the likelihood of another NC, is slim and none.

I learned that Anthony Johnson(not calling him freak anymore) and Ego need to bring their asses back for their senior seasons. Neither one will grade out to be a early round pick and neither one of them have played to their potential. Too inconsistent and we will need that leadership and experience going forward. If La'el doesn't project first round, he needs to return also. The only thing left to hope for is to finish off strong. Ruin Bama's bid for another MNC and shutting up those Aggie fans. We will take one of those games. More than likely aTm cause their D is worse than ours. Hopefully, this performance will light a fire under the staff and players but I won't hold my breath.

I learned that 95 % of the LSU posters on this board are bandwagon and frontrunners.

Not true LSU fans because where I come from you may get mad at your team and coaches but you always support and pull for them.

People talk about how the experience in tiger stadium isn't as good and I see the reason on this board.

LSU fans have become winers and complainers and have been spoiled by success.

If you cant support your team in the tough times what does that say about you as a person.

I am upset at the ole miss performance and I want better. I believe we can win out and have a great season.

We are 6-2 and deep down we all knew this team would struggle when the sec part of the schedule came around.

I want our players to know their are some LSU fans that still believe they can do it and will stand behind them to the end.

Our coaches have to prepare them better and expect discipline.

Geaux Tigers and win or lose I support you.

And this is what I find disturbing. All I've read mostly in this thread is "what ifs" about the game. Yes we turned the ball over 3 times, yet still had the opportunity to win. Yes, our defense played horribly again, yet if it wasn't for a muffed punt and a fumble, the game could have gotten out of hand. That's what you call football people. Things happen. It's how you capitalize on them that will determine whether you win or not. In the end, neither the offense nor the defense could do anything to secure the victory.

Coming into the season, I was hopeful, but not too optimistic about our chances for a national championship. I knew that if the offense improved and our defense remained competitive, we might have a decent season with 9-10 wins. It's not that I was accepting mediocrity, it was me being realistic about the team we had. We lost a lot of key defensive players and now we have a lot of first time starters and freshmen on defense. The last game many of these guys had prior to the first game of the season was in high school. Reality is only a handful of freshmen can come out and have an exceptional games/seasons. You don't find too many Jameis Winstons, Jadeveon Clowneys, and even Johnny Manziels out there.

While many of you have decided to turn in your fan card or boycott games, just remember, whether it was coaching, the lack of heart, talent and/or ability shown from some of the players, etc. there are guys out there who are truly giving their all to the fans and the university. They could have gone anywhere else, but they decided to come here. That should be appreciated at least. I know it's hard to see the team like this, but many within our fanbase have seen a hell of a lot worse than this. I know it's not that we lost, it's how we lost and in some cases who we lost to. Unfortunately, that's also football. You have to come out and give your A game every time you hit that field. Obviously, Ole Miss wanted it more. The effort they gave was phenomenal considering the players they lost. I don't know if we just didn't take them seriously, the game plan either wasn't that great, or we just didn't execute it.

Whatever the problem was, if you go out there thinking that because you walk onto the field that you're going to win, or consistently stick to a game plan that obviously isn't working that well, or not giving 100% effort at each snap, you will lose. I don't care if you're LSU, Alabama, etc. You will lose. Sometimes talent alone is not enough. (And before you say anything about Alabama go back the ULM game or even Arkansas against ULM for another example). If you don't have the heart, the drive, and the grit to win, the talent, no matter how good it is, will not be enough to see you through.

We'd have put the game away by then if, earlier on, ZM hadn't killed two drives that should've given us 14 points. We should've gone into halftime with at least a 7 point lead.

Mettenberger and shitty defense cost us this game. And I agree with the OP that our defense, young or old or whatever, just isn't very good. And if they've been "coached up" it sure doesn't show out on the field.

If the Ole Miss bears do not fumble the ball twice and let us block a kick, they win easily.

meh, two of those were like punts that went in the endzone. I didn't really learn anything that I didn't already know about Miles. He has an uncanny ability to destroy a QB. But, I already knew that.
