There Seems To Be a Misconception Concerning the Iowa Game.

I am not sure why but I have read Wiscy fans who have claimed some strange things about our victory over Iowa in last year's bowl game. I would like to take this opportunity to clear things up and I invite any of the great Badger fans who have joined us recently to watch the game on YouTube again and verify.

Here is a link for a YouTube video that wraps up the game in less than 20 minutes...

YouTube Quicky

Lets just get right to it and acknowledge that LSU's defense is on a level that Iowa would have never been able to match up with on their best day last year. This included the Tiger DL against Iowa's rush. Keep in mind that even after losing two DTs to the NFL early, LSU will have a DL that will be just as good or better against Wiscy.

Plainly stated, LSU's defense will be better than anything that the Badger's players have ever faced or will ever face again on an NCAA field. I find it rather cute how Badger fans have spoken of their secondary as being very good. Their idea of Very good doesn't even make the second string on LSU's Nickel set.

Bottom line is that the Badger O is not as tough as they think that they are.

On the other side of the ball, the Badger defense does indeed sound very weak to me. There is no reason why any Badger fan should believe that they could be expected to do any better than Iowa did against us with the worst QB play that we have had since the 2011 season. So lets add 1 + 1 and tell me what the score might very well look like if LSU's passing game gets going.

Again, the Iowa game was not close and Les Miles was never worried about losing even with the worst QB play that we've had in years. The Tigers defense will be just as good or better next week. The Tigers O will be just as good or better next week.

Wiscy is not a bad NCAA team. I do like them and their tough guy mentality. At the same time, I fully understand what happens when LSU faces teams like them. It might very well be a close game and there could be turnovers that could keep the game close or even give LSU an opening loss this year.

I wouldn't bet on that though.

Did you completely forget the TAMU, USCe, and UF game in 2012? Even the Clemson game was bad.

I pretty much agree with the other stuff you had.

Bowl games are never an accurate representation of a team anyway.

Who do you think was more excited to play that in that game? Iowa or LSU? If Iowa wins, that is a HUGE statement win for a much inferior opponent in an inferior conference. If LSU wins, well good for us, we were supposed to.

Good luck keeping guys focused for 30+ days with that kind of motivation.

If we contain Gordon, we will crush them. 1600 yds on 207 carries is stout. By far the least carries of the top 10 rushers last year. By at least 50 carries.

I think we're going to win comfortably, but your analysis has every unknown breaking LSU's way:

We're replacing our DTs - they'll be as good or better than last year.

We have an inexperienced QB - he'll be at least as good as the experienced QBs we've had since 2011.

Wisky has a lot of newbies on defense - they're going to suck.

All of this might be so, but I doubt it. I think we'll struggle mightily at QB, but we'll have enough of a talent advantage to overcome it. Much will depend on our young DTs. If they can hold their own we should eventually wear down Wisky, and then the floodgates will open.

Thank God the players and coaches don't think like the fans.

While I agree that we are vastly more athletic, there is more to football than that. Wisky could play the game of their lives.

I will say this. If our defense and DL are as undisciplined as they were at the beginning of last year, they will run on us. If we played this Wisky team in weeks 1-4 or so last year they would have ran on us at will. They would have been looking around saying "I didn't realize it was this easy to run on an SEC defense." Not to mention 2 green quarterbacks. That alone lends itself to a close football game where a turnover can determine the outcome.

If our talent plays disciplined football and our qb's play within themselves, then I see us winning by 10. If qb play is ahead of schedule, then sure we should win by more. But I wouldn't touching this game from a betting standpoint. Too many unknowns on our side.

I am not discounting Whisky..

They are a huge team that wears down teams in the 4th quarter. We will have our hands full with Gordon.

A victory of any kind over this team would be great and not taken for granted.

Me, either. They're committed to their style of football and make no excuses about it, nor do they try to be a team they're not.

I'm not scared of their size, so much - we're fairly big for an SEC team, but their persistence. Any team that sticks to their gameplan against us tends to scare us and make it close, late. It is those teams that we force out of their comfort zone (because we completely negate something or get a big lead) that we tend to cruise against.

I agree. Perhaps he will not get used to our speed in time to really rough us up - just a very impressive back.

Jennings has to make quicker decisions and trust his receivers. I'm hoping that he knows he could be on a short leash w/ Harris itching at the bit to get his chance if AJ doesn't perform at least at a game management level.

Why do people keep using this word so often? If you had left it out would people think you meant it figuratively? I'm just curious. I hear this word at least 50 times per day now.

You actually should be very worried about Arky. We play them on the road the week after Bama. We'll be emotionally flat, and they'll be jacked. And they usually play us tough.

We could easily lose that one, but if we win, it will close, and very ugly.

This is wrong. The evidence is in the qb they are starting. Seems to me Anderson wants to go away from what's made them so good.

I disagree here too. Tcu changed it up and made it close, Oregon didn't and it wasn't close, auburn? Stuck to their guns and t wasn't close, no matter how you look at it. Statement is just plain false. Too many games going either way.

Wisconsin is not Iowa in any way.

Our defense played like complete crap quite a few times last year. Our saving grace in the Iowa game was that DJ Welter matches up well versus the type of team Iowa was and didn't have his normal complete crap game. He may be better this year but Wisconsin has a much better line to block him. Right up the middle may be a weakness for us this year and everyone knows that. We should find out pretty quick if that will indeed be true.

This is the thing, and the way Wisconsin can best LSU. Characteristics of the better Big 10 teams are that they are usually well-coached and well-disciplined. They may not have the talent of an Alabama or LSU, but they can make up for the difference in flawless play.

OTOH, LSU is not known of late for being a very well-disciplined team. Plenty of mental errors, miscues and blown assignments have marked our team, esp. since after the 2011 season.

If the Tigers come out unsteady or unready, a disciplined, focused Wisconsin team could run away with this game.
