... LSU football was for the most part a joke from about 1973, when the Tigers lost that infamous game at Tulane, until Saban arrived in 2000. Literally 27 years of frustration....

---Good grief! You don't remember the Arnsparger years, do you? Great teams.

Being a student in the stands 96' through 99' had a fricking blast.

Good times.

Yes, striving for mediocrity and achieving it was great. I felt so sorry for the Florida State, USC, and other university fans after they won national titles. Imagine what they missed...our mediocrity.

I remember when I was a kid (mid 90's) listening to half the games on the radio because they weren't televised.

Beating Florida was the greatest football moment of my life to that point (LSU/Saints fan so understandable). I remember how the next day it still felt so unreal to everyone.

I prefer our current situation.

Well said. The tailgating and game experience is completely different these days.

Rooting for us to lose makes you a shitty fan IMO.

Yes, getting skull dragged by Florida and having the best players leave the state was awesome.

Arnsparger years

LSU football was good, but not great, in the years from 1984-88.

That period produced some of the most memorable games however: 3 victories each against highly ranked A&M teams, and Bama, 2 huge wins vs. Notre Dame, a big win @ USC, who won the Rose Bowl & finished #9, and the famous "Earthquake Game" victory over Auburn.

It was fun. Then in '03 to win it all...storybook! Hoping CEO brings that fire back. Saw glimpses of it last year but you're right. It was a special time to be an LSU fan.

LSU wrecked teams in 2011. How the frick could y'all not enjoy embarrassing Auburn, UF, UGA, Arkansas and beating bama?

That literally had never happened before.

Anyone who thinks LSU football is more fun now than it was 20 years ago isn't old enough to have a proper opinion.

It's nothing but delusion now and greed

I long for the Nineties, on occasion. It was a thrill seeing Alan Faneca pancake blocking a tackle to open up a huge hole for Jay Johnson or Kendall Cleveland, or Gabe Northern flying into the backfield to nail a running back, or Jesse Daigle hooking up with Wylin Williams on a fly pattern.

Whatever happened to Jay Egloff, or Sammy Seamster?

A great offense and a dominating defense will make it fun again. The last few years were way too stressful. Geaux Coach O

The best LSUteamive ever seen was under coach miles. That 2011 team was filthy they just got ran into a determined, great bama defense for the championships. shite happens but to deny them of there greatness is short sighted.

While I agree, this is hardly a problem unique to LSU. Tradition has been sacrificed for the almighty dollar.
