The Terrible...Terrible Towels

I know this has been discussed on here before (last thread I could find was from 2012 Twirling Towels at the Game.... ) but I really wanted to make sure it gets some attention again so that the fanbase/whoever is in charge of placing the towels in the stadium understands how detrimental (IMHO) these things are to the atmosphere in Death Valley.
I sat square in the middle of the East side of the stadium for the Ole Miss game, there were no towels for this game, and I found that it was incredibly loud for the majority of the game,so much so that I was unable to hear or speak to those sitting directly next to me for over 50% of the game.
For the Alabama game (towels present) I sat in the student section, which if I recall correctly is normally the loudest section, however I'm not sure that there was a moment during the game where I couldn't hear those around me besides when Yeldon fumbled near the Alabama endzone late in the 4th quarter.
I'm not in any way blaming losses or wins on whether or not fans are swinging around the towels during the game, hell it looks pretty damn cool when the majority of the stadium is swinging those things around. However, I do know that for every towel being swung, one less tiger fan is clapping and therefore not adding to the loudness that Tiger Stadium is known and feared for.
I think we need to attempt to keep these things from entering the stadium in the future, or at least to urge other fans to clap instead of swing the towels.
Again...sorry if Germans..and I'm not betching about past losses, only hoping to help maintain a winning environment in Death Valley.

There were towels at the Ole Miss game (purple--I have one), but I think there were less of them-- mostly for the students.
The towels look awesome, IMO. The pom-poms at Alabama don't make them lose. We almost beat Bama while waving towels their past two trips here. It's the 2-minute defense on the field that loses the games lately, not the towels.
We can only do so much. The team has to give us reason to cheer, too.

Is it louder across the stadium from the student section or in the middle/above it based on how high you were?

The atmosphere at Tiger Stadium is defined by the noise factor. Anything that detracts from that is a bad idea. Towels are an example of this.

I know the OP - he is a pom pom. He is very jealous of the towel.
2012 Bama had the towels and it was one of the loudest games ever. I was at the Tennessee 2000 game when we won in OT under Saban and there were towels. That was also one of the most electric environments that I've ever been a part of. Maybe our fans are just wussies now. Our problem isn't towels, it's our defense with under a minute to play.

the towels make it louder if anything probably because of the excitement of how it looks thus making people yell louder. The last 2 Bama games at home with towels were as loud as any games. Stadiums with towels or shakers are the loudest in college football: Auburn, Bama, Texas A&M, Penn St, South Carolina, Georgia, Tenn---- who cares about clapping -YELL

The noise in Tiger Stadium is not from people clapping. I don't see anybody clapping when we are on defense. Everyone yells. Towels don't take away from that.

Yeah, you can clap, yell, stomp or shoot fireworks out of your azz, but if the D can't tackle a guy in bounds one time in the last minute, it ain't gonna matter. (For the record, I think the defense has been outstanding in the 2nd half of the season).

The ole miss game was significantly louder than ole miss throughout the game. I agree with the op actually. I noticed this the last couple times at the bama game and also at the ATM game. A lot of those who's Shake Pom poms or twirl towels aren't yelling at the same time. I rememeber the swish swish shush sound during a key period in the bama game at bama and thought well it looks loud but it's not. With that said it does look cool on TV and it makes a great souvenir. I think for ole miss we really had the will to win that game. Bama felt more like I hope we don't blow it crowd atmosphere.
