How in the blue frick could we have a lineman down field in that play? The ball was out quickly and it wasn't a screen or anything. I was at the game so I didn't see a replay but was there a lineman down field??

yep, he just kept moving up field looking for someone to block. They showed it on tv.

There were actually two linemen downfield on the replay.

The replay showed him having no one to block, so he ran to the lb level. Dumb arse play, if he even knew the play. The right side had some WTF plays, but they'll improve. Stud will be on em, I hope.

Yeah, as an LSU homer you hate to see a BS flag like that. But he did get down field.

The guard just didn't have anybody to block. So he ran down field too far.

Very correctable mistake. Good that it happened now, it that the OL will learn from it.

actually, watching the replay and both guards were 4-5 yds past the LOS when the ball is thrown. Williford just looked to be a step farther than La'el was. could've been called on either.

Well I am glad he did. Met got to throw 2 TD passes in the game on a fade and a deep seam. That ain't easy to do back to back

Well maybe that means it was a running play and audibled to the sluggo route? Idk just wondering how 2 lineman can be down field when the ball is gone in <4 secs

Wasn't a running play. Lineman did their job. Mett and receiver knew cb would jump route and burned him. Play call was quick slant and OL were trying to cut off the linebackers. Probably just a look or headbob to audible.

That's not what I saw at all, I saw him stand up and go at a DLineman who moved outside, and he stood up trotting forward. If that's what he looks like when he's looking for a linebacker to block, we have some fricking problems. Dumb frick call by a dumb frick ref. Sorry about the fricking language.

Both guards were 4-5 yards up field for some strange reason. It was the proper call. Maybe the play name is similar to the bubble screen name, and they blocked it that way. Neither seemed to ever get into a pass block mode, just shot of the line.

They always told our Oline in HS that if all else fails pass block. You're still blocking someone and although it may be the wrong person it will keep you from fricking up and having a TD called back for being downfield. It looked like RS was going to run a quick slant which would've been complete before the the lineman made it to the next level. RS actually sold it well and then cut back out. More than likely it was a play called that had similar wording to the slant and that was all the lineman heard. LSU ran that slant a few times that helped set up the called back TD. Actually I was impressed with how they got to that point even though it was called back. Always cool to see how little plays set up the homeruns.

Wasn't the referee our old buddy BugEyes Ritter? Sure looked like his ugly arse on the brief replay I saw.
