I've read numerous posts in various threads about how the Tigers do not pass enough on first down. As I was watching the Auburn game, I remember feeling surprised how many times we did pass on first down. So I decided to look at the stats.

1. We had 13 drives during the game and we passed on the opening play 6 times.

2. During those 13 drives we had an additional 13 first down plays and we passed 5 times.

3. So we had a total of 26 first down plays and we passed 11 times or a little over 42% of the time.

Interestingly, the NFL average for first down passing this year is 62%, and the SEC average is 37%. Overall, LSU has passed on first down 27% of the time this year, mainly in blowouts where we pounded the ball on the ground in the second half. We actually opened it for the Auburn game.

So why are people bitching about passing it more on first down after the Auburn game?

The same reason why people bitch because we don't air it out and throw enough deep passes in a game in which we had 500+ yards, the same reason why people bitch about not having enough sacks in our games against UNT and Idaho...because most people are dumb.

I think people want more down field passing plays.

Personally, I'm fine with LSU running it every play until the Bama game.

Because attempting a pass and completing a pass are very different things. I would put most of this on the WRs though, the drops are getting out of hand. Pun intended

Our first down completion percentage is 75.8% this year. In the Auburn game it was 72.7%

Again, where's the beef?

i don't think we would throw it more without the drops, that's not a CLM offense.

We have a bunch of buttfrick stupid fans who see what supports their preconceived--and most times negative--biases as opposed to reality. Take that tard Stephenomally or whatever's thread. His perception is not on the same planet as reality. And he's a "hedge your bettor." Only the countiest of bloody counts do do that.

It isn't that hard to understand the chief complaint. Since Chizik has been at AU, teams have carved them up in the air. Why LSU seems to be the only team that can't get a ton of yards in the air and score a bunch of points against them consistently is a bit maddening.

Brah, get this sense and logic the frick off the rant!! We must throw it every single down!!! The qb from ODU just threw for 720 yards, and he's no where near as good as Mett.

Thanks for posting. I was at the game and was mainly frustrated with the turnovers and penalties. We moved the ball OK but I think the players walked into a buzz saw, crazy crowd, Sat nite SEC. Mets first SEC road game. The D was suffocating. Rewatching the game I felt much better about our play and how Mett looked. Florida will be interesting and Auburn was a good eye opener. People bitching about the passing should maybe stick to the NFL.

Until we get some WR's that hold the ball I would rather pound the rock!
