How bad is the state of LSU basketball when an article about the son of one of the greatest players (who has a statue), never mentions LSU once?

Shaq has proven over the years he loves LSU. While I am not happy with the state of basketball at LSU, I don't think this is condemning evidence. If I were a legend at a school I'd have second thoughts about my son attending the same school. Of course I wish Shaq's son wanted to come here.

Kid isn't even going to visit here. If we all take our love of all things LSU out of the equation, in reality if we had D1 basketball talent we wouldn't mention LSU either.

I wouldn't let my son be coached by an idiot either. Jones is a recruiter and someone who stands on the sidelines looking lost while the other team goes on a 20-0 run.

LSU could do way better than him.

What if you were one that pushed for him to be hired?

At least have us on the list of 5 schools.

Just to get us some publicity? I guess that would be nice of them

You certainly wouldn't ever bring up that fact

Yep, like with Trent Johnson.

No coach has won more at the beginning of their career at LSU than Johnny Jones. He wins games and gets his players to the NBA, plain and simple.

Now if only he could get LSU basketball into the NCAA tournament.....

You may be the only one that believes that. Shaq certainly does not.

LSU isn't getting him or Javonte Smart. Can't say I really blame either one

I wan't Shaq's kid here as much as anyone. Hell I want all big name players here. But I think our business model needs to be built around program guys and less around landing the occasional big fish.

You need to read the History of LSU Basketball over the last 50 years. The average number of wins over the 50 years is 16 per year. No one has a NC in the last 50 years. Jones record is even better than Dale Brown's at this point in Dale's Career. LSU has had some of the best Basketball Players in the game Maravich, Shaq, etc. There have been some Final Fours. I think the LSU Basketball Program is about where it has been over the last 50 years which is average at best!!

The only way to get this program out of the rut it's been in is to hire a solid coach.
Not one that Joe Dean was buddies with, Jon Brady.
Not one that goes back to Dale era, Jones.
Not one that was not a good fit, Trent.

You find the best candidate. Just like you made a solid hire in Torina for softball with no ties to LSU, you do the same for men's hoops. And who knows, you might hit a homerun. Or you might flop and hire a coach like Trent.

I think Clarence Ceasar is honor-bound to send his offspring to LSU.

Its bad. We all know it's bad. Even the people who defend it know deep in their hearts that it's bad.

This won't be a popular opinion but lsu needs to hire Carlos Sample.
