How about losing to Saban so Saban can win his multiple championships at our expense. The last 2 losses to Ala. have been very, very painful to witness. The BCS title game was a complete joke offensively and the conservative play calling w chance to secure victory this year was heartbreaking and frustrating as well. That's my criticism as well. He wins when he should and that's a bonus no matter how frustrating it is to watch. Having a QB that can throw and run when needed is what we are lacking to be a championship team. That's obvious.

Can be summed up in three words:

He's.

Not.

Nick.

Jalen Mills was not out of position . A blitz was called & the LB did not get to the qb so it was a perfect call at the right time. Did u watch the game?

Did you sleep away 2011 when we scored 500 points and was #12 in scoring offense?

Saban made LSU good and Miles has made LSU elite.

The Root of the Les Criticism

is he is not Nick Saban.

I'm thinking there are at least 2-3 losses over the Miles tenure that have potentially costs either a title or a shot at a title

"ones we let get away" that leads to my frustration at times

That's understandable, but lots of other teams could say the same thing. Do you think Spurrier was a good coach at Florida? He "only" won 1 NC. Got blown out in a NCG even worse than Miles. Lost close games that had he won would have put in in position to win a NC. How many close games to Miami did Bowden lose that cost him a shot at a NC? So far the only coach to win 3 NC's in 4 years is Tom Osborne. He won his first in his 22nd year as Nebraska HC. How many Final Fours dod Coach K go to before he won it?
Winning a NC is hard. All you can ask for is the team to be in a position to win, which Les has done. Yeah, he's lost some close one's that rip out your stomach. But he's also won plenty like that as well (Auburn 07, Bama 11/5/11). Focus on those and look forward to the future.

Alabama has won 2 out of 3 National Championships and has a distinct possibility of making it 3 out of 4. That very easily could be us but its not. That's my point. it's those one or two games that have kept us from multiple BCS titles. It sounds like bitching but it's not.

uh, if Ohio st isnt on probation, bama doesnt sniff title game. last year bama benefited from OK st loss, and "eyeball test"
bottom line, media loves bama and saban. the guy's a great coach, but so is Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Bob Stoops, and a handful of others. They just havent been as fortunate as him

The only thing that frustrates me with Les is his handling of the offense over the last few years. I do not think he made improving the offense a priority.

But who, in those last 90 seconds, who? I ask, made the call to protect that puny 3 point lead by going soft/prevent/zone? Was it Chavis? Was it Miles? Does anybody know?
Miles needs to stop meddling in the D and let Chavis do his job.
Silly Rantard, any time any play or series fails, Miles called it.

I actually disagree with this statement. I think Les would have finally overcome the Saban stigma last year, but he blew it in the NC game. And then he took another big hit this year. With many fans he is now back to square one in the Saban-Miles derby.

You guys are complaining about a coach not being able to win a BCSNC every year, something that only has been done 3 other times in the HISTORY of LSU football!!! Oh and BTW CLM is responsible for one of those, though many of yall love to give Saban credit for that one! The fact of the matter is Les Miles is a great coach! Matter of fact, the fact that we were in position to beat Bama and contend this year after losing the best player on your team, arguably your team leader, all of the injuries on the line, losing your best running back in Blue! After all of this he still managed to win 10 games! who else has had to go through that kind of attrition, and only loss 2 games? This INMHO is the single best coaching job of his tenure at LSU! Theres more to coaching than x and os, gameplanning, etc. theres also recruiting, motivation, preparing your team, week in and week out! Some are good at some, others are not. Its the balance of all of them that makes you a great coach! Look at the schedule, LSU plays! i would argue that if Bama plays either UG or FLA from the east, Bama is not in Atlanta this year! CLM is a great coach, and if that midget wasnt residing in Tuscaloosa, were not even having this conversation! Yeah hes quirky, doesnt go by the book all the time, but thats what i like about him. Yall act like its easy to go undefeated every year and most of us know its not! its time to recognize the accomplishments of this man, and give him his credit where credit is due! You would be hardpressed to find anyone in the country to duplicate what this guy has done and to win games in the manner that hes had to! BTW if CLM is not the coach in 2007, we dont win the BCSNC that year! So lets stop comparing him to the gohst of Saban, and give CLM his props! He's damn well earned it!

The root of the criticism is a direct comparison to Saban and Bama. People forget that nobody matches up to Saban. Les is the closest CFB has got but that isn't good enough for many.

Miles is seemingly held to standard literally no other coach is, or has been.

He is held to Nick Saban for a couple of reasons at least:

1. Saban, his predecessor, was very successful
2. Saban, his nemesis, is very successful and has kept LSU from winning titles the last two years.

I could not disagree more with this. While some here may want Saban as LSU coach, it is likely a very small minority. If CLM accomplished 1 more championship, he would be rightly lionized. 2 or more, football immortality.

There has to be a turning point. I may be off on this, but two games come to mind: the miscues in the Ole Miss game and the UT game.

Uh, what an ignorant comment, Les has actually done both.

Sorry, didn't have the final rankings for Saben.

Saben:
8-4
10-3
8-5 Lost 4 of last 6
13-1 BCSC
9-3

Miles:
11-2 #5 Katrina year
10-2 #3
12-2 #1
7-5 Perriloux kicked off team
9-3 #17
12-2 #8
13-1 #2 I believe
at least 11 this year

Which resume would you hire?

I think speech and manner have alot to do with not buying into Les despite the relative success for many. It's brutal at times both in clarity and manner.

I know it was the biggest thing for me to get over and following 2008, 2009 and the first part of 2010 which I considered disappointing seasons Les had even more to overcome.

But he has overcome it, and I want to appreciate it, but it's still a struggle for me...just being honest.

I've never called for him to be fired and never will, but I'll probably never be the rah-rah guy that loves the peculiar rants and I probably never will.

And so what.
