I think there is a good bit of truth in what McKay wrote. However, I think it might be more of a case where Alleva handled this so badly, the whole thing was blowing up in their faces. Alexander saw a PR nightmare, didn't want to go that route, and clamped down on the whole thing.

Contrast this to Bama's hiring of you know who. That was kept real secret until the right time.

I remember the 90s, and Louisiana politicians ruined LSU football. Mark Emmert changed that in 1999.

Welcome back to the 90s!!!!

90's?

McKeithen strongly opposed hiring Arnsparger and firing Stovall. Liked things just the way they were.

Then there was Cusimanno and his crew opposing Saban and Emmerch on making the facilities and other aspects of the football program better.

Wow lynch mob time.

I blamed the wrong, stinking, career obsessed, yellow-bellied administrator for this.

I'm ready for Miles to go, but he got done wrong in this thing by some a-hole nobody ever heard of except when he was asking for more money.

I'd say we should put the blame on whoever the "source" of the information was. If the info had been private and kept behind closed doors we would probably be introducing Jimbo Fisher as our new head coach today.

I am flabbergasted by that article.

If this is true, LSU is in a hopeless and difficult situation. There are way too many hands in the cookie jar, impeding change and progress due to political considerations.

If I was an LSU fan the wind would be completely taken out of my sails.

Hey, let me float something out there, okay? Can I just say... Can I say something? There is a hive of bees outside the front door. We kidnap the queen, extract her alarm pheromones, place them on a flushable wipe, and put that in his bathroom.

F King Alexander and Alleva need to be fired before Miles or it wont matter who the coach is.

What top rated Coach would ever come to LSU under this regime?

How many of those fans who thought they were giving him a nice sendoff actually wanted him gone and were just trying to be classy about it?

It's a failure of leadership. Alleva is the athletic director. He leads the athletic dept. Alexander is the university president. He leads the university. Do these guys talk? Good leaders communicate, sit down, talk, strategize, gameplan, play devil's advocate, brainstorm. You get the idea.

Contrast the events of the last two weeks with the events in 1999/2000 when Mark Emmert spearheaded the hiring of Saban.

One is a tragedy, the other is a triumph.

Just as that moment in 1999/2000 was a bellwether event in LSU's history, I believe what culminated yesterday was another monumental event in LSU's history.

It is sobering.

I really believe whomever the next OC is, I don't see much change in the playcalling or "opening things up" like the article reads. I'm afraid we are stuck with the same ole same ole in 2016. It's not like we have another qb with experience that's going to come in an set the world on fire.

Besides I'd argue that without a doubt the state of the university is significantly more significant than football.

And what is the state of the university?
Needs more money? What's new?

Decent article, but the article is coming from a bad perspective.

What F. King Alexander did was keep the school's academic interests first and athletics second. This article made it sound like LSU's budget situation to be rainbows and butterflies. The school is still cutting academic programs and can't always rely on alumni donations since it's paltry compared to the rest of the SEC.

Now why would boosters contribute over 20 million on getting rid of a coach (as frustrating as he is to watch) for a marginally better coach when that money could be donated instead to the med school or to give LSU teachers and fricking raise (which they haven't got in years). If the boosters really cared about the school, they should keep in mind why a buyout like the one proposed makes the school looks embarrassing.

As it should be: academics first, athletics second. Period.
