Just rewatched it again, and I forgot how much of a nailbiter it was for the first 3 quarters. Eventually LSU's depth won out, but what was most interesting was who really changed the moomentum of the game: TM7.

There really is no bigger difference maker on defense in college football right now and he was very well deserving of his Heisman trip. If his numbers are even close to what they were last year, he should get serious consideration. And what is most impressive about him is that his bestmoments are in the biggest games; he isn't doing this against scrubs.

Also, really not impressed with Spencer Ware. He's OK but doesn't bring a whole lot to the table. Michael Ford is clearly the best RB.

AFA is JL, while he had a good game, it is obviously if you pay attention that he was going to have to tighten up his throws before he got to the likes of Bama. So many of those completions would have been incomplete or intercepted against a Bama defense, and that's exactly what ended up happening (this is not a JL v. JJ post...just saying what I saw)

I really think this year's team will be the best LSU team we've ever had. Can't wait

I agree, but at the same time I was never nervous. Our OL was just demolishing them, and it was only a matter of time.

I felt last year Ware needed to lose about 20 pounds or so Montee Ball style. His vision also left a lot to be desired. Personally I was more impressed with Hilliard and Ford.

This is just not true. The first half the honors were pretty even, and perhaps tilted in Oregon's favor when they took the lead. Our DL stopping their running game and Mathieu's play was the turning point for our offense. But it was close for 3 quarters.

This.

Oregon finally figured out they had to abandon the run and go pass happy and complete short passes for drives like West Virgina was later able to do against LSU.

Running Oregon's bread and butter read option doesn't work against LSU's D-line or Auburn's D-line in the Title game...it was Oregon's passing that got them back into both games in the 4th quarter.

Game was close at the half...the 3rd quarter turnovers by Mathieu's play and DAT's hands (Black Mamba fumbles if you can touch him.) Every Pac 12 team knows this...blew the game wide open.

They had 20 guys in the box and we were still getting 3 to 4 yards a carry. You can't take a pounding like that all game. It's just like The Cotton bowl vs the Aggies.

Teams with great D-lines are a terrible matchup for Oregon.

They could win 1/5 from one of those teams but they have to be clicking in their passing game and play their best on D.

No reason to be nervous if your front 4-5 are studs.

That was one game out of 14. If we talking rbs, blue is the best all around. Ford really struggled with blocking early on.

I recall being nervous until late in the game. Never considered Oregon to be an easy win despite the score.

Oregon's defense was as maligned as it has been in the 3 years Chip was a coach. Our third string NT got the start because the two in front of him were battling a high ankle sprain (Heimuli) and back strain (Keliikipi). We were also missing our stud Mike Backer (Alonso) and we had to go with a three man rotation at ILB (Clay 225, Stuckey 225 and Malone 210). It was a small rotation and shallow for a 3-4. We got Alonso back and got two other ILB experience during the year.

The oline was not demolishing our defense until the second half when our depth and turnovers caught up to us. LSU averaged 2.4 ypc in the first half.

I certainly did not think it was in hand until quite late.

I have seen the ducks score a zillion in 4 minutes.

We were fortunate that their starting DB/KR was out.

that was the difference. their backup DB/KR muffed two kicks, did he not? And he gave up a TD. the guy who was "sat" out of the game was a 1st team Pac-5-6-8-10-12-14 (do they have 14 or 16 now) and the guy who made the mistakes in the kicking game and on a key TD was a freshman in his first game, period.

That's a 17 point swing.

We got off easy.

So have I.

USC was up 24-7 in the 3rd quarter before the Ducks closed late. That's their M.O.

So when people say, they got garbage points...not really, there are no garbage points for Oregon...their goal is to get you tired and catch you at the end against teams where they are over-matched.

Still LSU made the plays and would give Oregon the same trouble at the D-line.

That's going to change. Chip has been recruiting olinemen with a nasty streak. He was working with 2/3 stars in 2010 and he was replacing those guys in 2011.

Fisher, Grasu, Clanton are all guys that Chip recruited and are on our front line. These guys are beating the old guard in the weight room and in conditioning drill.

Regarding Oregon's injuries, we had several starters out as well, to go with the whole mess of JJ's suspension. Which resulted in JL, who was second string, right or wrong, having to step into the pressure of a big time game. As for being close, that's why good teams win games in the 4th quarter. We were pounding them by then & they scored their last TD with only 13 seconds to go after driving the field on our 2nd team defense. Take away that last second score & see what the scoreboard said.
