I can promise you if Coach O fails, LSU will NOT promote an assistant on his staff to Head Coach. You can put that in the bank. Aranda or whoever. Won't happen.

I disagree. If Aranda continues to show he is one of the best DCs in football then why wouldn't LSU promote him to HC?

uh, because coordinator and head coach are completely different jobs requiring completely different skill sets.
A big school hiring a HC with zero HC experience is a big risk. Most elite coaches start at lower schools and prove it there first, then move up. Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh...

My point is if other power 5 programs try to snag him as HC then why wouldn't LSU give him a shot. Sometimes you have to take risks.

we're taking a massive risk right now with Orgeron. If he fails, you want to double down with another unproven head coach?

Jimbo Fisher had zero HC experience and we took Miles instead of promoting him. I hope we don't overlook Aranda and make the same mistake.

great analysis - since Jimbo succeeded then Aranda will too.
And maybe Aranda will be a great HC one day, but I don't want to let him (or anyone else) cut his teeth here. Give me a proven HC.
