The LSU QB Delusion/Illusion

I've now started seeing threads for Danny Etling and if he is good enough to take over Harris next year.
It has me thinking about how as a fan base, maybe we expect too much, especially from our younger QBs.
Over and over again, we have heard how CLM cannot develop QB talent. Yet he has put 3 QBs in the NFL in his tenure at LSU (JRock, Mett, and Flynn.) It wasn't until Miles came to Baton Rouge, was Russell able to shine. Remember, he was splitting allot of time with Randall.
In fact, when I googled QBU a link from NFL.COM showed LSU as the #5 school in terms of "QBU" according to the NFL with 7 drafted QBs over the last 25 years.
So, as a fan base, are we delusional and expecting too much from our underclassman or chasing an illusion that has unrealistic expectations on our football program?
#5 QBU
I haven't looked it up but it would be interesting to compare Harris's sophomore season to the others.
Geaux Tigers!

Junior the year of Katrina, right?
Then a senior the next.

Its simple. The QB play the last 5 years has not been on par with the rest of the team. Its seemed to have held the team back as a position from greater glory.
Its been frustrating at times to say the least.
Its also been frustrating seeing QB's brought in that don't seem to be the type of QB's that they want to bring in.
So after 5 years there is a even bigger spotlight on a position that is always brightly illuminated.

Outside of Mett, are QB play has been atrocious (and even then, we didn't even recruit him). It's not the players. We are recruiting top notch QB's out of high school, but our coaching staff can't develop anyone properly.
That and while the recruits at the QB position are highly rated, they aren't typically suited to our system.
I've never understood why Miles refuses to bring in pocket passing QB's. It's pretty evident these ATH types don't work here.

JR was a FRESHMAN in 2004 and playing for the very first time.

Sal, I was going to say this as soon as a read it; but do not want this to be a war thread against Pro Miles and Miles bashers.
Fact is, Mett had a great season that year.

Yes.
But I was frustrated with bombs thrown on a rope with no chance for the WR's to run under them

Simply not true. 3 QBs were drafted from LSU since Miles came here. Someone is coaching them up.

Jamarcus and Flynn were carry overs from Jimbo and Saban, and Mett transfered here after getting his QB development elsewhere. Our offenses are more often than not unprepared and our passing game is consistently in the bottom half of college football. I don't see how you can spin this any other way, but as far as throwing the football, we suck.

ah yes, the "youth" excuse again.
Somehow other schools manage to have their young and inexperienced QBs produce.

What school besides Clemson does this pertain to?

So you're telling me the QB play and QB coaching are just fine?
It's been awful. Mett was the only decent QB we had and he only came here because of an off the field incident.
Flynn wasn't even a Miles recruit.
How is it that other schools can pull in top talent at QB and have them succeed overwhelmingly at the college level (on inferior teams), but LSU somehow can't seem to ever recruit the right QB?

the problem isn't the QB's, the problem is the predictability of miles' offense... LSU could have a clone of 27 year old joe montana and would still experience similar problems... if you think otherwise then you're a pinhead who has a child like fascination with miles.

Has it really been that bad besides last year? Going back to the delusion.

But he was coached by Miles long after recruited by someone else.

I just think part of our problem is we expect too much. Harris will be fine next year. He will be a junior and things will slow down. He will work with a better defensive unit; and hopefully be able to get healthy. Let's not get caught up in the illusion that we are somehow Standford or USC, we are a RB, WR factory; not really a QB factory.

"Mett transferred here after getting his QB development elsewhere"
Is that why he was not good enough to start.

So you are saying he was better developed by a JUCO coach then here at LSU?
