The Kentucky game is a hard sell out. Why isn't LSU touting that fact?

The Pmac almost never sells out except for maybe three times since Shaq but you wouldn't know it for tomorrow. Now there are a lot of tickets on stubhub but that doesn't change the fact it's sold out.

It's a good chance to show that LSU basketball can sell tickets and fill the pmac up.

LSU's never had any idea how to promote basketball. They need to hire the people who came up with "I'm In" for the Hornets. That was a great campaign. LSU is pretty clueless about basketball. They think they can put up a billboard on the interstate and call it a day.

I find this very hard to believe....but I don't know who they'd tout it to or if it's even worth bragging about.

Georgia 2006
Xavier 2009
Kentucky 2015

Tomorrow is four

There were definitely no sellouts from after Shaq to at least the 2000 sweet 16 season. Arizona in 2000 was about 200 tickets short. No more chances until the 2006 final four season when the Georgia game sold out.

I love tracking and following LSU basketball attendance so I got this covered.

He is correct. Ben Simmons is so damn good. He should be on the NBA All-Star team this year. Enjoy what we can.

Because it shows that our "fans" are more interested in seeing UK than seeing the best freshman and probably best player in the whole country on our own team.

ETA - otherwise attendance wouldn't be so bad for all of the other games.

Attendance for bad December non-conference games was higher than usual because people wanted to see Ben Simmons. Soo

LSU had a press release and people were really excited about the sellout for the Kentucky game last season. Nothing this year.

Maybe they're concerned about winter weather.

LSU dropped off quickly after Shaq left. The only seasons since then LSU had a chance of having a sellout are 2000, 2006, early 2007 (UCONN.. did not sell out), and 2009.. (Kentucky 2015 sold out but that was the only chance that season.)

Now go through box scores and look. Which I've already done many times. Or I vividly remember games and attendances 2006 and on.

LSU doesn't have a history of sell outs post shaq because there's been zero winning consistency. We've had some great teams sprinkled around bad ones. The minute the team gets good enough to spark fan interest they start to be shitty again. Until LSU can be a tournament caliber team for several straight years nothing will change

Georgia 2006 sold out only because it was a "throwback" game. They sold tickets for like $1 or something like that. Concession prices were really cheap. They wanted to pack the house that night.

Here's a great promotional idea: become a consistent winner. There were no gimmicky ads for LSU baseball (which I'm sure many didn't even know existed prior to the mid-80's), yet somehow it became pretty popular around town. I'll let you figure out why?

LSU started this season with a great crowd against a bad team on a Friday night. They proceeded to then crap all over themselves in Nov/Dec (complete with zero marquee non-conf home games) which caused all the preseason excitement to evaporate.

They regained a little bit of a pulse Sat. night. Now, can they do what they have rarely been able to do over the last 5-6 years, capitalize on renewed fan interest in a big game?

LSU basketball wasn't popular in the 80's because Dale was a great promoter. Dale was a great promoter because he scheduled and won a lot of big games.

It's a pretty simple equation:
Winning = more fan interest
Losing = a half empty arena.

More billboards or some goofy slogan isn't going to change that.

Some of the blame also falls on the media here in BR. Rabalais generally runs a preview article on the day of the game and a recap article following the game. This doesn't allow for any build up or anticipation leading up to the game. It's even more rare for the tv media to promote basketball. Tonight is an event that should get much more publicity than its getting.

I will give credit to Rosetta in NOLA. He obviously enjoys covering basketball and find several articles for each game. BR media could learn a thing or two from him.

Eta: WAFB just ran a 20 second clip right before they broke for commercial, further proving my point.
