That run was ridiculous, the way used his hand to stay up and avoid going down. For the rest of the season refs need to recognize the laws of nature don't apply to Fournette.

I admit it. I thought he was down too. So I don't really blame the refs. It's the rule. Should have been able to review it. I mean, no one that size is supposed to be that agile, but Buga gonna Buga. Spectacular run

A review would not have changed anything. The

The fact that a player isn't down when a whistle was blown means nothing.

And if none of the players heard the whistle also has no bearing on when the play ends. The call was correct. You spot the ball where the ball was when the whistle is blown.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they did not blow the play dead because they thought Fournette was down. That is not an inadvertent whistle. If that would have happened LSU wouldn't have had the choice to play the down over again like they did.

Instead the refs were just saying, "Hey, I accidentally blew my whistle for no damn reason. Wanna run the play again?"

Thank god that goober wasn't at the controls of a heavy carrying 400 passengers across the Pacific - (hey, I accidently hit the engines shutoff button) They get played to referee the game - he blew it.

That whistle wasn't even blown until he was up and running. It wasn't blown when he appeared to be down.

This!

If what you hear on the TV is "the" whistle, he's at least another 5-7 yards down the field, yet the ball was respotted around the 15.

Except, that isn't what happened.

nothing good ever comes out of an "inadvertent" whistle.

I remember the saints getting fricked the same way years ago against atl.

Others heard it. I am of the mind that the referee saved him from receiving a blow "that may have come" and been a damaging blow.

I think the Ref thought he was down and was trying to protect him from being in a vulnerable position, more than anything else.

I was on the West side, about the 20 yd line. I heard it blow, and I'm fairly certain it was the white hat that blew it. When LF kept running, I watched the sideline judge, and he started running with him, which means that he didn't blow the play dead. The white hat started running forward and he had that "Oh no, I just messed up look" about him.

Good look at #LSU RB Leonard Fournette on that inadvertent whistle run. https://vine.co/v/OMBpQTYVUqA

Well in about a 3 play stretch, they missed the inadvertent whistle, and blew the Trey Quinn interference call on 3rd down. That led to a missed 29 yard field goal.

There were several officiating problems in that game, mainly the BS PI call late in the game and the no-call of the obvious offensive PI against Jamal Adams on the next play.

Being a high school official myself, I can say that an inadvertent whistle is the one thing that is harped on with us constantly during the season. We say it before every opening kick-off after our group prayer, "See the ball and know where it is before you blow your whistle!" You always err to the side of being a little late with the whistle to be sure you know the player is down and the ball is dead. The "white hat" can fix any flag we throw but he can't fix an inadvertent whistle!

All this being said, it does happen and it sux that it happened the way it did Saturday night.
