The Great Dichotomy of the LSU Fanbase (long)

When it rains it pours, when you eat you feast.
(If you would like to read, comment, and discuss, please do so. If not, please disregard and move on.)
Let me predicate my thoughts with this:
The Arkansas game today was an emotional game for Arkansas being senior day, 4-7, no bowl future bowl game, and last game for John L. Smith.
While it can be frustrating at times to see LSU "stoop down to the level of their opponents" by playing sloppy and undisciplined, this game of football is much harder than I've seen people make it out to be. When things such as "LSU can win 10 games without even trying" are said, it nullifies the hard work of the victor, in that their sheer talent will prevail no matter what. That is why games are played on a 100 yard field and not on paper.
That being said, I have also noticed a week-to-week roller coaster ride of approval for the program. I too have fallen victim to this and from experience, it has clouded my perception from what really is going on. If I take a step back and take the whole season a continuous progression as a story in a book, it makes the development of the season more lucid and therefore makes more sense.
Yes I would love to be 12-0 right now heading into the SEC Championship game #1 in the country and have a chance for a National Championship. However, preseason projections do not take into account injuries, suspensions, and the wave of emotions that a player and team battle through the season with.
With the injuries during the season on the OL and Alex Hurst leaving in the middle of the season, that leaves only two players on the OL that are still starting today. Also Nic Jacobs has been suspended the past few games (and was becoming a nice checkdown target), Kwon Alexander missing half of the season, and Alfred Blue missing most of the season. Before the season, Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed, Tahj Jones became ineligible for the season, and Jordan Allen tore his ACL. Also not to mention, this is Mett's first year starting major college football and has shown real improvement the second half of this season.
Why is the LSU fanbase so fickle? Why cannot one enjoy the season as a whole and not the week-to-week Monday Morning QB that is easy to fall into? In a "what have you done for me lately" mindset, it can be easy to have that tendency of thought. One week LSU seems to have "fixed" the problems and the future is bright and it's all lollipops and unicorns. Next week LSU "struggles" with a "lesser" opponent and LSU will end the season unranked.
My point is, with everything taken into consideration, this has been a disappointing season, according to preseason expectations, but witnessing the war of attrition it has been a season conundrums but also one of perseverance.
If this comes down to Alabama's success then be an Alabama fan. If jealousy of Alabama is your mindset then cheer for them. If you are proud to be an LSU fan, then do as such. Who cares that Alabama may win their third title in four years. Great for them, Saban has built a great program in Tuscaloosa. So has Les Miles in Baton Rouge. Be proud of who you are, whoever you want to associate yourself with.
In closing, it helps me to give credit where credit is do. If Nick Saban winning at Alabama gets your motor going then by all means wear the crimson script "A" and sing Rammer Jammer. If you enjoy 80% winning percentage and love the pride the purple and gold, the state of Louisiana, Mike the Tiger, and the Golden Age of LSU football led by Les Miles, then fight to hold like knights of old, for the glory of the purple and gold.
I have much respect for Saban and what they do as I have respect for what Les does. Neither is perfect and both have flaws. Who cares if Bama is in our division? Beat them. Relish in the challenge of two great programs, a great conference, a great division, and great success.
Respect vs. jealousy.
Enjoying the the progression of the story vs. putting faith in the house of cards.
Enjoy the journey and be thankful of what you have. Oh by the way, the contributions of this team is very significant and will be for the bowl game.
The success now will not last forever and may never be this consistent.

I'm definitely not reading that, but let me guess, the 40,000th thread about how we should be thankful for what we have?

Please post more....but take your time next and express yourself. Maybe we could all meet at Starbucks and you could do a oral presentation. That would be nice

How about this: LSU is beat up, exhausted and needing some heal time after a season of injuries and a tough SEC schedule equaling 10 wins and 2 losses.
Privately poll CF coaches as to who wants these Tigers after a month of rest, healing, and prep. Answer: No body.

If thinking we can do better than losing two games we should have won and barely beating the 2 worst teams in the division means that I am a negatiger, I feel sorry for this fanbase.

It always amuses me how some people won't read a post over 25 words but they claim to know the correct decisions to guide a team in the toughest division in the toughest conference in the country.

So you think we should have been undefeated AGAIN in the regular season? And next year? Undefeated again? No man, I feel sorry for you with those expectations.

Do not understand your repeated reference to this. How does not enjoying Saban win at 'Bama mean that one should cheer for them? What are LSU fans comparing the team to? Those from past decades or the team's (and STAFF's) peers? I cannot say how much the injuries have played a part in the two losses, but I don't think they lead to dropped passes or other unforced errors. The team has not progressed, but has regressed if you look at the last two games for sure.

quote:Enjoy the success of both program of Alabama and LSU and not get in hissy-fit over what Saban does or doesn't do. It's a slugfest every year for the SEC West crown and the SEC crown for that matter. Enjoy and respect of what Saban is doing, and what Les Miles is doing. Both have flaws and both are great at what they do. Why should one be jealous of Saban, when you have the success that Les Miles has garnered?
Help a brotha out and give us some cliffs on that.
In other words be a true fan of the team you should support. Living vicariously through the success of Saban and transferring that success to the detriment of LSU is patently absurd because LSU is a dominant program also. Respect what each has, and don't be jealous of what the other does; be proud to wear the P&G if that is what you are supposed to do. If not, be an Alabama fan or a fan of somebody else.
Also, enjoy and relish in the progression of the season and not get to low or high on what happens each individual Saturday. Being the Monday Morning QB is a dangerous place to be. In other words, view the scope of LSU in more of a third person, big picture, reading a novel, kind of view. Taking everything chapter by chapter clouds the events and progression of the whole story.
Seeing the program as reading a book can help bring lucidity to actuality.
That was the just of what I was saying, it was just hard to be expeditious.

Even though many fans won't even be able to understand this statement, it may be the best description and advice of and for our fan base. They've simply lost their p&g pride in a crimson-crazed anger. Are we more for LSU or against Alabama? Our fan base would do well to make that assessment.

Nice post.
And judging by some of the responses, we truly have just a bunch of shitty fans.
