I realize the bunt has become a big part of a teams offensive plan, but it can also not allow rallys' to happen, and squash a good hitters confidence.

To get the first run on the board or play for the go-ahead run late is one thing, but we have now wasted to many good hitters AB's worring about a bunt when the big inning would give us a world of juice right now.

So let 'em swing the bats, what's it gonna hurt at this point?

I agree. Time to quit playing for 1 God damn run. We never hit em in anyway. Just giving up outs IMO.

Yeah, that's a great reason to just let em swing away.

Let me get this straight the bunt killed the inning because no one coming behind the person bunting could get a hit. BUT if the person bunting had swung away everyone behind him would have then magically gotten a base hit.

Maybe the batters in the lineup are not confident anymore at their ability to hit since we have to bunt so much to manufature 1 run. I can see playing for a run to win a game. But to play for 1 run early could put a lot of pressure on a pitcher to have to hold a team to less than the team can manufacture.

We are not committed to it. There has been times where our only decent hitter has been up with runners on and no outs and pops up or strikes out, that kills the inning.

I posted this same thing last night and the thread got whacked........can't understand the fascination for bunting Hanover incessantly in the early innings.

Exactly...no one is better than the team and that should speak for itself. When the chance to move the runner with no outs comes then you put it down no matter who is at the plate

Exactly. Bunting is the smart play. Poor execution afterwards doesn't change that. I didn't notice too many people complaining about it earlier in the season when the runner was being driven in.

It seems like poor Hanover always comes up in that bunting situation. He'll never have a chance to get that average up if that continues, but you have to do what's best for the team.

the percentages say you should swing away and not give the other team a free out by bunting.

Maybe in some situations with pitchers or bad hitters it can work out, but otherwise its not a good strategy.

Poor Hanover striking out last night killed that inning. Your number 2 spot has to at least put it in play in that spot

Not a fan of the bunt except in obvious, spot situations. I simply can't stand being forced to play with 2-out innings which is essentially what we're doing. It's not working for us anyway. At this point, let them swing away.

I like it more times than not but in certain spits it can be a momentum killer(see the Friday uf game.) for some reason it seems like lots of times I want to bunt we don't bunt and when I want to swing away we bunt. Guess that's why I don't make the big bucks. But for one, I do like it to move the runner with no outs to give a team the first run of the game. I just wish that he would bunt anyone to move runners instead of certain people. No one is bigger than the team.

I did this a while back to illustrate how I thought a Longhorn batting practice set-up would look...

I guess these new bats have more teams doing the same.

Actually the %s are better for scoring runs if you DON'T give up an out. Just saying.
