The Fallacy of "Continuity"

In my LSU football history, I have now seen this attempted three times and all have failed:
1) Post-'86, an aged Arnsparger was replaced by the youthful Archer. Part of the rationale was that "we have a good thing going and that's the best way to keep it going." So basically Archer tried to play the role of Arnsparger and it didn't work.
2) Post '07, Bo Pelini went to shuck corn. Les's first choice to replace him was apparently Boom. But Boom elected to be the HCIW at UT. So Les thought "we have a good thing going and the best way to avoid disturbing it is to promote from within." And out came this monstrosity affectionately known as Malleveto.
3) And once again, we kept most of Les's staff with the idea that it would maintain continuity. We essentially downgraded from Les to O. Now, we are stopped at the railroad crossing watching car after car just pile-up. Does this train have an end? Five games in, coaches don't know the players and the players don't know the plays.

We don't speak of such things on this site.

As bad as Mallveto was, that 08 squad would skulldrag this LSU team

Archer went 10-1 in fist season and finished #4 in country. Won SEC in year 2, so continuity worked for 2 years.

Imagine how long it could have lasted, if we hired the other candidate named Spurrier.

Until he left for Florida, which he told those that interviewed him he was going to do

Imagine if the guy whose advice we took on the hire wasn't planning on taking the job as AD in Florida.
