Pretty good short read. I remembering hearing about this on the radio that night.

I was 23-year-old reporter, eight months removed from my May 1979 graduation from LSU, happy to have my first full-time job with Tiger Rag Magazine.

We got thrown together in the worst possible circumstances in January 1980 when new LSU football coach Bo Rein was killed in a plane crash while returning from a recruiting trip to Shreveport.

Williams was the last person to see Rein alive, putting him on the private plane late on a Thursday night for a one-hour flight to Baton Rouge.

Nice read. It really makes me wonder how things might have gone had the accident not happened. So sad.

The day he died was my birthday. I'd have to say is was the saddest birthday I ever experienced.

I think he was speculating that God knew what was gonna happen and allowed Bo to speak with all his loved ones one last time.

You know sometimes in life you might just get that feeling that something is not right or off. Maybe he felt it, but was not strong enough of a feeling to stop him from getting on that plane. We will never
know but if Coach Williams said that no coach ever does that, well there you go!

I was a freshman in high school and a huge LSU fan. I remember being so pumped getting Bo Rein as a head coach. I remember crying like a baby

I woke up and it was being discussed on WFMF. I walked to my school bus stop and all the kids were talking about it. My Dad was a pilot so after school he explained it all to me. It was of course, huge national news and very tragic.
