Defense will be better than last year. Mingo and Monty were overrated. All Mingo did was run straight up field (pass play or not) while the RB ran to the place Mingo vacated.

13-1 which means NC. (14-0 with Minter and Hill.)

All creditability has gone out of the window.

If Minter had stayed and Hill had stayed out of trouble. Forget the rest of those who left early.

Idk how you can say both were extremely overrated and then say that if we had Minter/Hill that it would be a 13 or 14 win season.

Did you finish high school?

In other words, Mingo and Montgomery will not be missed, but Minter and(presumably)Hill will be missed.

I'm just curious how you can make the assumption that we won't miss Mingo or Sam? it's a fairly easy question to answer.

They were both very good athletes with minimal production. We have plenty of very good athletes with minimal production/experience. For instance, the floor of the amount of production that we get from Freak/Ego/Rascoe/Hunter/Allen/Herron/Bower/Fiest/Lacouture/Mickey/Gilmore/Bain is extremely high compared to what we've gotten the last few years. Meanhwhile the ceiling might even be higher. Minter was by far a bigger loss as he was the best player on our defense (and it's not even close) and he actually made plays, much like Sheppard did before him. Barrow is certainly capable of replacing Minter but Minter will be much tougher to replace than our two DE's from last year. With all that being said, I think we have a chance to have a considerably better defense than last year when you start looking at each individual position. Combine that with a slightly dif flavor offense that is more up-tempo and alot more experienced and there is no reason for us to lose more than two games next year when you look at our schedule and the way it is set up. Tell me one single team that we will play next year that has more talent in their two deep position by position than LSU...that's what I thought. No one does.

Neither had great years last year. Mingo was/is pretty much one dimensional. On the other hand, the talent we return and the new defensive recruits will more than fill the void. If we can hold SEC opponents to less than 21 pts/gm, the offense should be able to produce enough to win. (Unlike UF last year where we held them to 14 but only scored 6.) It all comes down to how well the O-line plays in 2013. If the OL comes together and vastly improves over 2012, Blue and Hilliard will be enough (i.e. without Hill).

Sam was solid, but Mingo got zero pass rush and was a liability against the run. How can his replacement be worse?

As Chavis says, depth is the worry!

Any key injuries at a few spots and blown assignments by inexperienced players in close games could be the difference between 11-1 or 8-4.

With Bama, TAM, Ole Miss, Georgia and Florida, 9-3 is probably the most reasonable prediction.

they have to show up EVERY GAME!!!
When you look at the football schedule the Tigers have been given this year, compared to the rest of the conference,LSU should show up with a chip on their shoulder every game! Those bastards in the SEC are going to make us grind this out again. I just hope we can stay healthy.

In fact raymond is far more technical than cooper.

True dat. I don't really get the bitching. Loston played pretty well. Both the Jalen's had their moments, way more good than bad. Mills is a potential shut down corner. Collins could be too, also a playmaker as well. The best thing about them is that they're still trying to prove themselves. Motivated and passionate.

Eugene, Thomas, and Holmes played really well in the spring game. On top of that we have Martin who has plenty of experience and ability. With Corey Thompson and company rounding out the depth of the group.

Plus we may not even have our best DB in school yet. Tre'Davious will play from the beginning. Robinson could as well. Both are amazing playmakers and damn good cover corners
