And the obvious answer: Hitting.

Here is why:

*The yellow highlighted players are no longer with LSU.

This is the most turnover that I can remember on an LSU baseball team. Our second best returning hitter has a 0.232 average.

Digging a little deeper:

2015 Starts: 594
Returning: 87 (15%)

2015 ABs: 2425
Returning: 386 (16%)

2015 Hits: 760
Returning: 101 (13%)

2015 RBIs: 414
Returning: 60 (14%)

2015 HRs: 51
Returning: 3 (6%)

Of course, there's still reason to be optimistic! First and foremost is our pitching. We return a good core of both our starters and relievers. Those who have left:

Person
Godfrey
Bouman

The three worst LSU pitchers in terms of ERA in 2015.

And there is the new blood coming in, much of them being transfers (fielders) who can provide at least some experience at the college level, although it's still a big jump to the SEC.

Individual workouts have already begun. Full squad practices start this Friday. We are just around the corner so I thought I would put this together.

small ball has proven in recent years to win the games that matter

I like the idea of us having a lot of kids out there with something to prove... and as long as we can pitch and defend... we will be solid

Poche makes a couple 30 foot throws and who knows... Then PM doesn't have to frick up game 3 so bad.

The game has changed, it's a pitching sport now. You don't have to be a great offensive team to win it all anymore. I think LSU will be just fine

To win in TDA, maybe. Still need hitting to get there though.

I'm expecting a ton of hit and runs this season. We are going to have to manufacture runs like a mother fricker.

With Canni's influence I expect the same. Stolen bases may go up even without Stevie and Mark.

That's the direct effect of a 35 man roster as well

Colin Strall and his 1.000 batting average return. All is well.

I left out him, Bouman and May. Should have made a note of that.

It boggles my mind that Strall wasn't worse than any of them. That being said, they hid him for about 60% of the season after he decided to walk everyone in the world.

I know there were people concerned with Deichman's summer performance, but most of the issues he had were early in the season (lack of hits, high strike outs, etc). He increased his hits and walks, and decreased his strike outs as the season went on. And he consistently stole bases when he did get on throughout the season. I think he'd primed for a big season. He just needed the longer season of the Northwoods league (as opposed to the Cape League) to get back into a routine.
