It has taken me 2 years to get over the debacle in the Superdome which, until now, ruined the whole season for me. But I've spent the last couple days watching the games from 2011, and even without the NCG win, I think 2011 was still the best ever football season for LSU.

We were absolutely dominant in every game except the two Alabama games. Dominant in games against 9 top 25 teams.

We beat the #3 ranked Duckies
The #25 Moo State Bassett Hounds
The #16 ranked Mountaineers
The #17 Gators
The #20 Auburn Tigers
The #2 Alabama
The #3 ranked razorbacks
The #16 ranked Georgia Bulldogs

It would have been the best football season by any school ever if we could have beat Bama in New Orleans. Yeah, it's disappointing, but that team was awesome.

The BCS gave us the big middle finger and made us play Bama again. I will always hate the BCS system for what they did to what could have been the greatest college team ever

True, but we sure didn't help our own cause by recycling the same offensive game plan that we used the first time we played Bama; and apparently having absolutely no back up plan in case things went wrong, which they did in a big way. Trotting JJ out there series after offensive series when it was obvious that he wasn't the answer. The poor defense played their butts off for 3 quarters before running out of gas.

For a team that was so dominant during the regular season, getting shut out in the BCS title game had to have been the ultimate embarrassment.

The BCS was the only thing that almost stopped us from playing Bama. The human polls had Bama at #2 so any system based on them puts them in the NC game. Any legit playoff format also has Bama in it and probably making the NC game.

But the computers in the BCS were almost enough to put Ok State over the edge.

Why should any team playing in the national title game feel embarrassed. It just was not their night. They held the Alabama to no touchdowns and 21 total points for about 120 minutes of play over two games.

I would have like to have seen Jarret Lee get in a couple of series to see if he might move the team, but in the end its tough to win two times over a comparable opponent.

The BCS gave us 2 national championships. Winning it all will take 3 tough wins in the postseason for now on.

3 of those teams weren't ranked at the end of the season(Moo U, Auburn & UF...we beat 5 top 25 teams.

We still dominated a bunch of quality opponents. Think our average margin of victory in SEC play was something like 38-7....which is incredible.

1 Alabama (59) 12-1 1475
2 LSU 13-1 1404
3 Oklahoma State 12-1 1367
4 Oregon 12-2 1290
5 Arkansas 11-2 1188
6 Boise State 12-1 1162
7 Stanford 11-2 1106
8 South Carolina 11-2 1084
9 Michigan 11-2 925
10 Michigan State 11-3 912
11 Wisconsin 11-3 911
12 Baylor 10-3 775
13 TCU 11-2 710
14 Houston 13-1 673
15 Oklahoma 10-3 610
16 Kansas State 10-3 602
17 Virginia Tech 11-3 574
18 West Virginia 10-3 554
19 Southern Miss 12-2 429
20 Georgia 10-4 345
21 Cincinnati 10-3 248
22 Clemson 10-4 237
23 Florida State 9-4 205
24 Nebraska 9-4 144
25 Brigham Young 10-3 79

Yes the 2011 season was the last stone to fall for the BCS. For LSU to dominate that way and beat bama at BAMA........ then have to play bama in the championship game was like a slap in your face anf they dared us to say anything about it. They dangled a apple at Okie St with if you beat OU you could play in the championship game. Then the proceeded to blow OU out the water. They would have lost to us TBH but it was taken out of their hands to compete for it. But bama was the only team that could physically stand up to us for 4 qtrs.

I seen the analogy on here a few years ago that said "it was like dating an OT 10 then realizing she had a penis"

IMO both the 2011 Bama and LSU teams should be considered top 10 CFB teams ever.

I would have rathered a loss to Bama in game of the century and play in a less significant bowl game. In place of going through 1/9.
