Ott is a freshman isn't he. Very few freshman should start in most college sports at LSU.

Just when we find something we needed, a GREAT closer, someone wants to move him into the starters role.

Being a starter isnt for everyone.

Can't we just put Ott in to relieve every starting pitcher in every single game?

Would be nice.

No, Ott went three innings, and he was worn out by the 9th. Maineri also talked about how they threw a lot of fastballs to get out of the inning.

He was pitching against HIGH SCHOOL HITTERS. THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL.

what does that have to do with his stamina?

are you saying he won't start at LSU in a year or 2 because he can't last? Want to bet that he does?

He's in the pen now because it gives us the luxury to start Coleman. It has nothing to do with him only being able to throw an inning at a time. Get a clue.

Why did he run out of gas (per Mainieri) in less than 3 innings of work?

I am willing to take that. Ott wont be a starter.

And its easier to go longer in High School because the competition is much less.
SEC lineup for 7-8 innings vs a 9-4A lineup at Holy Cross is a little different.

I am not saying he cant throw that many pitches. What I am saying is he cant be EFFECTIVE for that long facing those types of hitters.

OTT IS GREAT AT WHAT HE DOES, CLOSES! EVERYONE HAS A ROLE AND HE KNOWS HIS ROLE.

THAT IS WHAT IT HAS TO DO WITH IT.

THATS JUST MY OPINION. AND I HAVE A CLUE

THANKS ANYWAY

because he has been pitching an inning at a time and was viewed as a reliever coming into the season?

you dont just throw a player out there to start...esp a FR...just about all FR start in the pen anyway.

anyway, back to the point at hand..He is not in the bullpen because he can't be a starter...because he cant "last"...just not true

yeah he has done great. No denying that.

But the same reason Coleman has found his way to the rotation is the same reason Ott will. The same thing with Bradford last year.

Ott raped South Carolina in his THREE innings of work the Sunday game against them. Alabama's a much better hitting team than them, the best in the SEC. The game became a blowout and he lost concentration. Closers are use to being in a close game, and when it becomes a blowout sometimes they lose concentration a little. That's all that happened today.

In high school they don't have near as many games as a college season. Freshman tend to hit a wall. Just as college players do when they jump to a 162 game season.
