John had a bit sweeter voice, but Jim seemed more emotionally invested in the games(even to the point of whining).

I knew John Ferguson well, and I assure you that he was emotionally invested in all things LSU.

Perhaps Jim's voice conveyed the emotion more, I don't know. But I just want to assure the younger fans out there that John Ferguson absolutely was dedicated and passionate about our Tigers.

Jim did a great job and I hope he enjoys many many years of his well-deserved retirement. Whoever follows him has huge shoes to fill.

Thanks for the memories. You did an incredible job as the Voice of the Tigers. You are without a doubt, a true Tiger. Enjoy your family... you will never be forgotten.

Remember the great voice of John Ferguson calling games for the first 2-3 years that I began listening to LSU games on the radio. Remember him calling "Jessie Miles" name out quite a few times! Jim Hawthorn has been by far though the voice that I will always remember enthusiastically calling the games and great plays of the last 3 decades or so. Here is the great one from Saturday again....a classic! Sciambra HR

I remember Ferguson when I was a real youngster, but Jim is THE voice that I truly associate with LSU.

I moved here to Jax in 1990 and many were the times that my brother and I had to go sit out in the car to listen to Jim calling the football games on WWL against the likes of Moo U, Kentucky, and even A&M (heard Kinchen's miraculous play on the radio). So much TV exposure has lessened my exposure to Jim over the last 10-15 years but I will definitely miss you sir.

And to HELL with anybody who wants to talk some shite!!!

Me too. Dad and I loved listening to him. I wish him well in his retirement.

Thanks for the memories, Jim.

I kinda started tearing up at the end of the broadcast.
I can't imagine hearing anyone else calling our games.
Can you imagine how long it will take to get used to someone else

Was just looking back through this thread. My own post made me want to look up Jim's call of Kinchen's touchdown against the faggies. I knew there was a good reason it stood out to me. Fantastic!!!

I think this thread needs to be bumped until he retires.
