Tell me about Drake Davis (other then he is Lester Earls son)

I remember he was an extremely raw but extremely physical recruit coming out of HS.
What are his skills? Speed, power, etc.
Is he a true WR or more of a hybrid type? I know Canada likes the jet sweep so would he fill that role?

Former Soccer player
Freak athlete
Speed for days
Hopefully we can get a WR coach that will improve his route running and catching so, Canada can get creative and put him on the field

Monster WR talent. Gets the right coaching and he can start. Real talent out of Fla.

IMO his style is comparable to Dez Bryant. Great athlete with great size and doesn't shy away from contact
I don't think he's a speed sweep guy. You want him out wide and Canada usually uses his smaller slot guys for the speed sweeps.

Drake is a freak athlete. 6'4" 215-220 with elite speed. If he can become a more consistent pass catcher, he could become one of the best WRs LSU has had in a while.

He once ate 50 chicken mcnugetts in 15 minutes

Allow me to explain how hype works...
1. Find unproven recruit with some really good measurables and then maybe inflate them a bit. Drake Davis is 6'4" 220 lbs.
2. Develop some sort of narrative that makes him seem even more promising. Drake Davis is the spawn of super-athlete, Lester Earl. This likely means that Davis has or will soon have a 50"+ vertical. Drake Davis plays soccer at a high level, which of course means he can run all day without getting tired. This also means his flop-game is near Jamaal Adams' level, good to draw at least on unsportsmanlike penalty per game in LSU's favor.
3. Compare him to the most accomplished talents who have ever played the game. Drake Davis is much like Randy Moss is size, stature, speed and skill.
4. Over-analyze a limited sampling of his publicly available film. Drake Davis had 11 catches as a Senior at IMG for 39 yards per catch, amaze-balls! His one catch for 19 yards against Jacksonville St. showed flashes of brilliance.
5. Let other people's quotes inflate your expectations. Scout, Inc pulled from their generic list of wideout descriptions and assigned Davis this: "Davis is a load for defenders to handle, with great height, very good bulk and a long wingspan."
6. Look at the offers! Everybody wanted this guy coming out of IMG, 'Bama, Clemson, Akron. If everybody wanted him, he must be phenomenal.
7. Have excuses ready when he doesn't ball out as a true frosh. Bad QB, stacked depth chart, run-oriented offense.
8. Recognition that he's not going to be the Megatron you were expecting. Remember that most athletes, even some of the all-conference performers are not NFL calibur. That's life.
Seriously, Davis might be great, the next AJ Green. Or he might be the next Quantavious Leslie. I'd guess that LSU's coaches don't even know yet.

I saw him play a HS game on TV when he was at IMG. He caught a bomb for a TD in that game. He looked just like old Rueben Randle at LSU. Long loping stride and leaving everyone behind.
He is about 6'4", fast, and has a pretty good vertical. That could be a weapon if utilized and if he can catch in a crowded env.

Good athlete. Was one of the top wr recruits in the nation his so year. Then decided to give up football for futbol. Then his sr year decided that was stupid. Great ath, perfect size, speed. Need more reps and coaching before he can become a contributer.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but does his flight from football to soccer in any way indicate his timidness or not wanting to be hit? Malachi had all the tools, but his desire to not be hit kept him from really ever living up to his hype!

All I remember from him last year was 1 WR screen where he looked really powerful making a long gain late in one of the games.
