In coverage they are. QB's have been taking advantage of the weak coverage by the linebackers, whether it's short passes over the middle or covering a running back in space. The linebacker pass coverage is the biggest problem in defense next to the lack of depth on the Dline.

There's problems all over the field with this team. Only spot that looks solid is running back and O line on run plays.

Uh, a LB had a pick 6 last night.

very poor LB play.

At least under chavis we could blame personnel (ahem, ).

this year, its just plain execution.

LB are doing a horrible job of getting off of blocks.

True but if the linebackers step up in coverage, the defense improves tremendously

Linebackers are never going to look great picking up underneath crossing routes vs. a dink/dunk offense. Jones/Beckwith are the top 2 tacklers on the 16th ranked total defense in the country. But yes, there is a drop-off after that. Riley looked like Welter a few times last night.

Beckwith is not who I thought he was so far.I'm actually happier with the outside lb's relative to expectations. I know this will anger some people, but he's just not dominating inside. Maybe my expectations were way too high, but I was expecting Minter-type consistency.

It's quit sad because for the most part the Dline is getting to the ball, the lb's aren't.

It's not dink and dunk out of desperation to move the chains, it's dink and dunk because the opposing OC is taking advantage of the linebackers.

LB coverage isnt as much of a problem as our paper thin line & fading pressure as the game goes on.

I thought the front 7 played terrible last night. LSU could have put up 60+ had the Defense played up to their talent and not down to the opponent. Bama's running game will eat our lunch if this is all the 7 have.

it's dink/dunk because that's their scheme and they don't match up well outside.

LB coverage has been a problem in all 4 games with the exception of the 1st half vs state

In the past 4 games what's our defensive alignment been for the most part?

I was thinking the same. He gets caught up in blocks a fair amount and is late to just about every play.
