Finally, UT fans everywhere got a fond reminder of what "Third-and-Chavis" looks like in Nashville, and LSU defensive coordinator and longtime Vols DC John Chavis worked his Mustang magic that allowed Notre Dame to stroll down the field for the game-winning field goal. Good times. It's always good to see old friends around the holidays, right? Now the folks at Texas A&M can become familiar with the defensive schemes of The Chief that are simply disruptive on first and second down and self-destructive on third down. UT fans now embrace the altered rap theme "Third down for what." When Chavis was running things it was "third down and what the heck."

2012 and 2014 vs Bama. both games were won but he can't defend a two minute offense for shite. now we've lost 4 in a row to Bama when it should be 2-2.

who else is on the list?

ND in music city bowl
Clemson in chic fil a
Bama twice

I know i'm forgetting others.

After some point, the 3rd and Chavis stuff has to hold water. Too much evidence

He was great at times but long third downs made me grit my teeth. Here's to no more of that!

Well, we couldn't stop ND all day. It wasn't just a last drive thing.

2014 Alabama pissed me off because we suffocated their offense all night. Then they drive right down the field to tie the game? Are you kidding me?

Still, Chavis is a great coach and I appreciate him for his service.

Will be interesting to see an older Chavis at TAMU with the same scheme but worse talent and an offense that puts him in really tough spots

Yeah, nd was bad but in the other last minute dagger games, the D played very well to keep Bama in check. Few teams were able to do that.

I will use four games as examples, two close wins, two losses under three different HCs at the same school

Arkansas 2010
Arkansas 2012
Arkansas 2013
Arkansas 2014

I'm not excusing our offense. We need work and help.

But yeah, Chief was taking shots at Les and Cam.

He's going to appreciate that conservative-possession offense with a minimum of turnovers when that run-and-gun stuff becomes a turnover machine and puts his D continually defending poor field position.

I was always concerned with the defensive line (except 2011) and lack of aggressiveness on some downs.

ETA: and linebackers. This guy kept DJ Welter as a starter for awhile.

Didn't Bo Wallace easily work down the field the last minute or so this year? Thank God instead of going for a field goal to tie it up, bad Bo decided he would throw a pick

Penn St in 09
Ole Miss last year

And almost Ole Miss again this year

Half of our losses since the Capital One Bowl have been due to the opponent scoring in the final seconds.

In that 2012 Bama game there was also a 2-minute offense situation to end the first half that they scored on.

Ole Miss last year had a drive to get the winning field goal at the end.

Some Vol fans told us to expect that from him. They were right.
