Chew on this.

Etling attempted 17 passes week 1 and 8 were completed for 10 or more yards.

Week 2, 5 of his 14 attempts were completed for 10 or more yards.

That's 13 of 31 passes completed for 10 or more.

Admittedly, i am going just on memory, but that has to be a HUGE percentage uptick for LSU.

Have you watched the LSU offense the past decade?

It is great to throw the deep ball, keeps defenses honest.

My concern: Will we be able to complete the short-mid range pass when it matters?

I mean we used to only complete like 3 passes a game and like 1-2 would be bombs

Wasn't one of the biggest criticisms of Miles offense is that when we did throw it was always a bomb?

For LSU, they are.

I know they should be expected. But they haven't been.

Absolutely.

I don't think 10 yards qualifies as a "bomb"

Compare this to past years versus bad defenses and see what you get. This in itself tells us nothing.

Rant logic....

*last 10 years*

"OMG, no passing game! Throw the ballndown the field! No deep threat! Where's the passing?? Practice throwing the ball down the field against weaker competition!!!!!"

New coordinator, LSU looks to be working on throwing the ball down the field, keeping teams honest, taking chances downfield...

Rant says

"Oh, but look at these two powerhouse teams they've played. Not impressed"

Jennings completed 14 such passes in the first two games of 2014 against Wisconsin and Sam Houston.

I think a blind man can see that Etling is a better QB than Jennings

LSU fans last several years: "We have absolutely no vertical passing game. Everything is run run, short pass, or incomplete."

LSU fans this year: "We have no short/intermediate passing game, everything is downfield and against 2 cupcakes."

At what point will you guys stop complaining and just enjoy the damn game?

Pretty much what I was getting at. This stat is stupid, especially vs the crappy arse secondaries we've played.

Etling is on record for completing 11 passes that have gone at least 10 yards. That is tied for 9th in the SEC and 89th in the country. Even giving him 5 more would only put him at 56th in the country and tied for 4th, with 3 other people, in the SEC.

I don't see where anyone stated otherwise.

I don't think the stat is stupid and there is a lot to be excited about, but a lot of people are going overboard with the "WOW this has never been done before" posts.
