Former LSU quarterback Stephen Rivers has transferred to Vanderbilt, the school announced Wednesday.

Rivers, a 6-foot-7 Alabama native who will have two years of eligibility remaining, announced his transfer from LSU in February. He completed his course work and graduated in May, allowing him to play immediately next season at another Division I school.

The Southeastern Conference granted him a waiver Tuesday to transfer within the league. The Advocate reported two months ago that Rivers had visited Vanderbilt.

Rivers’ father, Steve, told the Advocate in February that his son was leaving because LSU’s offense was “going in a different direction.” Jennings and Harris are speedy, versatile QBs. Stephen Rivers is a pocket passer. Hayden Rettig, the No. 3 quarterback exiting LSU spring practice, announced his transfer last week.

Stephen Rivers is expected to compete for the starting job at Vanderbilt. Rivers played in four games during his LSU career and attempted two passes.

What will the melt from the Rivers/Rettig camp look like if he goes to Vandy, starts, and does a decent job?

Nothing should melt if that happens. If anything people should be happy for him. I for one hope he does well. He never got in trouble and was a good Tiger for 3 years.

The melt will happen if he puts up good numbers and LSu QBs flounder.

but that wont happen because Harris is gonna beast.

Is what it is. Maybe that kind of system benefits him more.

I know that Jarred Randall transferred to Arizona. Randall is the perfect QB for Rich Rod's offense. I look forward to the rant exploding if he has a positive season in the PAC12

People would be happy for him. But they use it as more fuel to call for Les Miles head. We could win 11 games this year, but if Rivers were to start at Vandy and end up with more passing yards than our QB, I'm sure we'll be treated to tons of comments about how Miles hates white people or something...

I hope not. I haven't heard a ton of people on the Rivers wagon. I was happy we got him in here and that he was given an opportunity, but it seems like he just got passed up on the depth chart. It happens.

I think its more up to Cameron anyway and everyone here thinks he is infallible so should be no worries.

I suppose an offense with a pocket passer was simply too damn effective

Right.

Because we had a successful pocket passer, all other pocket passers will be successful. And because the last athletic QB we had was bad, the rest of them will all be bad.

Didn't take long for this type of logic to find it's way into this thread. Some of you make last years offense sound "the end all be all", It simply wasn't.

I know, it's not like Rivers' father would downplay the fact that his son simply got beat out on the depth chart, right? It couldn't possibly be that Rivers' just wasn't as good as the other QB's on the roster. Clearly, the reason he's transferring is purely because Les Miles hates pocket passers.

He had a hard time rising to the top of the chart. This is a good move for Rivers and I wish him well. He probably will do well at Vanderbilt. Hopefully that won't matter for LSU.
