what do yall think of him starting at the hybrid linebacker position that harry coleman played at last year? He just hasnt seen the field much even though he is a redshirt junior. He seemed really quiet in the spring game and just havent heard his name mentioned much. i hope this wont be a weak area in the defense but we are thin at linebacker after shep and baker even though i think kevin minter can contribute this year

Him stepping up and securing the position you mentioned is one of the biggest questions for this season that no one ever talks about.

yea no one seems to talk about it. He just didnt seem to ever be around the ball in the spring game. We are just very thin at linebacker and it almost seems its his job to lose by default

He has probably the best position coach we have. This is Chavis's second year with him. If he's on the field, he's ready!

he beat out Tahj Jones and Lamin Barrow. Was anyones else in the competion for the spot? Josh Johns and Rocky Duplessis possibly. Maybe could have shifted Minter to the outside. Hope he isn't a weak spot and that he can step up and actually be a strength but the competition for who would start doesn't sound that great for the spot. Wonder if Justin Maclin has any chance to make a push for starting in that spot this season. But Francois was highly recruited and just might turn out to be a stud at OLB.

The competition he beat out isn't tremendous but the guy literally is tailor-made for the position. Coming out of HS there were questions on where he would be safety or LB and this is the perfect position for his type of tweener. Neither Minter or Maclin have a chance in hell at playing this position.

Based soley on these posts and what little I have seen of him, sounds like wishful thinking.
Maybe someone else wil fill the spot by mid season...

What in the world has Baker done to make you so confident in him? Head-hunting on kickoff coverage doesn't always equate to great linebacking. Just based on how good he was in high school and his athleticism, I think Francois will be fine. Also, I think somebody mentioned him as having the best spring/summer or improving the most or something like that. I have no idea what poster it was though, or what inside source he had.

but we already have a tweener who is going to start on the other side in Ryan Baker. Both outside linebackers are going to be small which is no big deal if they are strong and tough enough to play linebacker, which Baker obviously seems to be. Both are going to have to prove themselves.

If he struggles, I could see Shepp move over and give Minter the middle. Minter is a good. Watch the Spring game. I know he's 240, but the guy ran down Ford , and strung out Shep to the sideline. Met Ford a couple times on the goaline for no gain. The other guy who impressed me was Tahj Jones. He is skinny, but has the speed and strength to play.

Just that they haven't moved Shep back outside and started Minter in the middle says something about the confidence the staff must have in the OLB's

well I obviously cant say I am as confident as in shep but i have confidence in the guy that he will be a solid player just because he was always around the ball in the spring game and looks the part. But yea no one has seen much of him either.

And im assuming chavis is gonna rotate 4 guys like he did last year so the 4th would be minter. I was very impressed with him in the spring game even though he really doesnt look quite 240.

Well francois has fought through two injuries and stayed on the team, he could have left the team obviously. So you know he won't quit. Also I know he has one nasty attitude.

Tahj is a very good athlete and is physical enough to play,,,but from what im hearing is still to small ...200 lbs range. Ive also heard that Johns has had a very good summer and is now in the 215 range and that Chavis is high on him. L Barrow is 230ish. None of the younger guys(true freshman) have been working with the ones or twos during the summer. That could all change when fall camp starts..

Baker has seen time in some pressure games. He made the initial hit on the goalline during the miss state game that even allowed chad jones to make that final 4th down stop. Baker should be fine, as well as francois. Word out of spring was that he was looking good

Make no mistake, LSU runs a 4-2-5. Francois is another safety on the field. You can call it a hybrid OLB if it makes you feel better, but he's a safety walked up.
