He has the talent to beat Maryland. He is just a really overrated HC.

Anyone not aware of the dumpster fire that is Texas football must have only now awoken from a long arse coma.

Do you think Saban didn't have the talent at LSU to beat a fricking UAB?

Herman wanted the Texas job. I say frick him and Texas. Anyone not understanding that LSU right now is much more talented than Texas right now is a goofball.

Considering Texas scored on defense and on special teams and still lost...giving up 51 pts... it's safe to say that whatever is being coached on defense is a dumpster fire.

Thank God we didn't hire him. His hubris wouldn't have allowed him to keep Aranda, if Dave would've stayed on anyways.

You didn't see the montage of "O" speak on ESPN last night?!

It is an old publicity truism that it doesn't matter what the media says about you as long as they spell your name right. It's kind of like young kids dying blue, green, or red highlights in their hair. You may find this interesting or stupid, but they got your attention and that is step one.

Think about the ceaseless Saban close ups. Even when chewing a player out, the notoriety helps him recruit. Miles eating grass and looking stupid in a hat became The Mad Hatter. This helps recruit.

So some kid in Florida becomes intrigued by a coach talking "Water Boy" talk. If he opens the door to hear O's pitch, we are ahead of 99% of the rest of the programs with that prospect!

This is a good thing!

In fairness he inherited a dumpster fire at Texas. A true rebuild.

24/7 Football Recruiting Composite Team Rankings:

2014 - #17 Texas This would be the seniors and redshirt juniors
2015 - #10 Texas Juniors and RS sophomores
2016 - # 7 Texas Sophomores and RS freshmen

That is not a true rebuild. Top 10 recruiting classes in two of the last three years.

Maryland's recruiting rankings:

2014 - #41 Maryland
2015 - #47 Maryland
2016 - #41 Maryland

Tom Herman just has a special knack for having ranked and more talented teams and losing to unranked, less talented teams. He just has the "IT" factor.

Texas won a few games less but we lost a lot and had to play a ton of freshman. Lsu staff > than UT staff.

Why even play the season... just give the natty each year to the team with the most recruiting points.

Apparently he had trouble getting people to come work with him.

great coaches make decisions with their head. LSU, at this time, is a much better situation than Texas for a young head coach.

Wish I could give this more upvotes. It was a crazy decision objectively (though it's hard to be objective). His wife clearly wanted Austin (whiplash sound) and now his career faces a much, much bigger hurdle than necessary. He could've rolled into LSU and only worried about installing his offense, now he's liable to flail for a few seasons trying to fix the Texas D - and he may not be able to.

That can change real fast if he can't start putting in a better product.

Winning is what opens doors to the four and five star guys. Saban could talk redneck shite all day and as long as he wins recruits couldn't care less.

All this BS about how O talks don't mean shite.

In 2015, he went 11-1 (with a win over Florida State) with a team that finished 7-5 the year before. That's pretty impressive, especially at Houston.

In 2016, with the most talented team in the conference he finished in 6th place (with losses to unranked and less talented teams - Navy, SMU and Memphis). Would have been 1 more but he hauled butt before the bowl game.

Went 9-3, which was better than any season his predecessor had, and better than any Charlie Strong had with better talent at Texas.

His predecessor's predecessor - Kevin Sumlin went 12-1 in his last season as HC.

Sumlin's predecessor was Art Briles. It's not like the Houston Cougars football team has sucked since Briles got there in 2003.

Hell the guy before Herman had 2 winning seasons out of 3. His only losing season was his first. He finished 5-3 in the AAC his last two years just like Herman's 5-3 in the AAC last season.
