I suspect that the man has no idea what he is saying. The calculation is straight forward:

p=mv where p is momentum, m is mass and v, velocity.

Just looking at the equation makes is clear that the two are not even in the same ball park. I would rather have LF7 hit me at full tilt than a 500 lb tiger. Forget the teeth.

Well, the the comparison is absurd. I could generate more momentum than a stationary locomotive for that matter. Journalistic idiocy.

They also said fournette can make a cut in .2 seconds, faster than the blink of an eye which takes .5 seconds.....

Idk who takes .5 seconds to blink but a lot of their info is miscued or exaggerated

All of the comparisons to a 500lb tiger is moot anyway. We all know the proper comparison is to an 800 pound gorilla, with a chainsaw for a penis.

It is stupid.
The formula for momentum is mass x velocity.

LF weighs 230lbs and has been clocked at 20.5mph.
A tiger weighing 500lbs only needs to travel 9.43mph to have equal momentum. So technically, yes he can. But a tiger's top speed is 40mph meaning LF would have to hit a speed of 86.96mph to equal a tiger's maximum momentum.

If the author simple meant the tigers momentum equation can be made equal to LF's max momentum then more power to him but it's horribly misleading. Usain Bolt is 207lbs and has been clocked at 27.78mph giving him approximately 22% more momentum that LF has ever generated.

Just look at Bo Jackson. He was so powerful that only one person could effectively hurt him; Bo Jackson.

the (larger faster) tiger doesn't try to run through his prey, and stops to consume it upon contact the tiger isn't generating full momentum on contact?

The language in this thread is sloppy. Momentum is simply the mass (of Fournette or the tiger) times his velocity divided in half (at least that's what I remember). It doesn't matter how Fournette delivers the blow.

Now, the change in momentum, due to a blow, certainly is affected by the way it is delivered. I think this is called impulse, but I might have that wrong. It can be measured by calculating the difference in the subject's momentum before and after the collision.

You are conflating momentum with kinetic energy

K.E.= 1/2mv^2. In either case the tiger has way more mass and way more velocity. The headline of the article could not be more misleading. In fact it is plainly false. That said, I hope LF7 comes to Tuscaloosa with the mentality that he has the same momentum as a 500 lb tiger....

This claim is utter nonsense. LF7 at 20.5 mph generates approximately 3900 ft.lbs./sec momentum whereas a 500 lb tiger at 35 mph generates over 25k ft.lbs./sec. It is not even close. I do not understand how he could make such an obviously absurd assertion.

I think he was referring to Mike The Tiger who's lazy azz doesn't move very fast in his cage.

Y'all are all so frickin dumb.

What the little ESPN nerd is saying is that the angle of LF7's dangle is inversely disproportionate to the heat of his meat. Anybody who made it through high school trigonometry knows that shite.

Yeah, you're right. I graduated LSU EE in 1985 so I'm rusty.

No worries. I would forget my head were it not attached-to my hind quarters according to my wife.

I graduated with a BS on Chemistry in 80. Do not want to think about the shards of rust rattling around in my cavernous melon.

The easy answer is the guy doesn't have an answer. As hard as at may be to accept,he's never measured an athlete of LF's caliber. He is at the highest measuring point in every measurable. I don't need science to show me that.
