Seems like a weak arse team to do a neutral site game with, no?

LSU is ridiculous. They are the biggest neutral site whores I've ever seen. Anything for a fricking check. BYU isn't a team to go to Houston for. Play them in Tiger Stadium and end it.

Because Houston is becoming one of our larger recruiting footprints and we have numerous alumni in the city.

I totally get the recruiting angle and alumni being there. I'm not doubting going to Houston for an opener. I just think it pathetic that it's against a team like BYU.

This is the acceptable answer. Seems to me like we've been doing pretty well with recruiting this area since we started this thing in '11.

LSU is really trying to Corner the Mormon market in recruiting.

I live in Houston. Obviously I think it's awesome. One less home game I have to drive in for

BYU is an independent looking for top tier teams to fill their schedule. And at least they cosistantly end up in the top 25.

I'd much rather them than McNeese or any other FCS or bottom dwelling FBS team.

LSU has a huge alumni base and is a big recruiting base in Houston. Houston also has a big Morman population which explains why BYU.

Alabama has played a neutral site opener every year since 2012. It is part of the landscape of college football.

I'm lukewarm about the BYU game, just like the TCU opener in 2013. But both of those schools have good programs. LSU plays Miami in Arlington to open 2018. I'll be excited about that one.

Yeah, it is a very underwhelming opening opponent. Definitely didn't need to be played in the shitty pro atmosphere Houston stadium.

Don't believe it was ever a home and home. I could be wrong but their is a mormon guy at work and we were both aware when the game was signed. Unless my memory is failing right now I'm pretty sure it was always just one game at a neutral site.

The mormon told me a lot of team's hate to schedule home-N-homes with BYU. In their quest to take over the world they have spread out to pretty much every nook and cranny in the States. So a lot of the fans for BYU will not be traveling in, they are already there.

Another reason is the morms who do travel will have arrangements already made by the Salt Lake and local mormon churches. He has two groups that are staying with him as assigned by his church. May have something to do with him being a BYU football fan, having the space and he is going to the game.

Mormons do not spend money going to bars like LSU and other fans. Mormons don't even drink carbonated soft drinks. They either drink water or lemonade. Have never heard stories of mormons drinking a town dry of lemonade.

Those things suck for places where BYU may play on the road. Some team's fans fill up a town's hotels, bars and restaurants. When BYU comes to town it's like the place becomes a ghost town until game time.

1. Great for our recruting base
2. Lots and lots of alumni that will watch in Houston
3. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This thread is really really dumb btw.
