Where is SOS and his basketball stat analysis that tells us who should be starting for LSU?

The only analysis this team needs is that Johnny Jones is awful. The rest doesn't matter.

The right combination is one that doesn't include Johnny Jones as HC.

Nothing changes till he's gone

If he can beg for Victor to come back and make his guards play defense we have a chance to make the NIT maybe

I would like to see more 3 attempts by Reath, Epps and Hayward and less by Sampson and Patterson.

Is there anyone left who can still defend Johnny Jones still being LSU's coach?

Turnovers and poor defense, especially in transition, have combined to frustrate Jones to the point that he can’t wait any longer to make changes to the lineup, playing time and the players' attitude as they near the midway point of the season.
All directly related to poor coaching
quote:
“We’ve got guys in positions right now that are not used to having to make a lot of plays from that spot,” Jones said. “We’ve got to do a better job of putting people in the right places that are capable of making those plays. We have to make sure we fix that problem soon, because we can’t allow those type of turnovers to lead to easy scoring opportunities for our opponents.”
Playing with a smaller lineup should never increase turnovers. If anything you should be able to take care of the ball better with more guards on the floor.

but Jones could start 6-6 Wayde Sims at forward and perhaps try Jalyn Patterson or Branden Jenkins at point guard, with Jenkins or Skylar Mays at the three-guard spot even though Mays has played point most of the season.
Also makes no sense. Skylar isnt a scorer. Granted neither is Patterson or Jenkins really. But Skylar has by far the best To/Asst ratio on the team. He needs to keep running whatever schoolyard offense it is that we run.

He probably gets depressed looking at our defensive stats for the season.

Hayward has five less 3s made that Patterson but has also shot 27 less 3s... Wtf.

JJ probably wonders why Black and St Louis are listed on the stat sheets.

If only we had a coach.

Here's some quick stat analysis. LSU is ranked 205th in defensive efficiency (last in the SEC). According to the Kenpom rankings, they are the second worst team in the SEC.
Jones' coaching style is as close to just "rolling the ball out there and let's see what happens" as it gets in college basketball. It looks like many games you would find at a rec center, only with much better players.
Defense is completely optional. Jones harps on the problems in every postgame interview, yet it never gets fixed. His only saving grace in 5 years as HC was the 2 years he had the best shot blocker since Shaq on the court. Mickey erased much of the mistakes that Jones' defensive play allows. It's ALWAYS been a problem. Mickey just hid it for a while.
Offensively, LSU has playmakers. Their individual talent is very good and difficult to stop one-on-one. That's good, because Jones doesn't have any sort of structured offense. It's 5 games of one-on-one at all times. No one moves without the basketball. Screens are just set aimlessly and only at the direction of the ball handler. Guys just kind of drift around to spots with really no rhyme or reason.
It's sad to watch this team because the talent is there to be much, much better. No, they don't have the same level of overall talent as UK, but there's no reason they should be getting pounded by mid-to-bottom tier SEC teams. Sampson, Blakeney, Mays, even Reath, could start for almost every SEC team. It would be one thing if this were a Mizzou situation where they were having trouble bringing guys. But that isn't the issue here.
Jones is completely overmatched at this level and his team has flat out quit on him. The program has quit on him. Actually, it quit last season after the Alabama game in Feb. But alas, our top shelf AD elected to give Jones another year to really sink the program, rather than make a move and salvage what could have been a pretty good team. Now you've lost Victor. You will likely lose Blakeney. There is going to be a gap in recruiting in if you have to make a coaching change.

Yeah a lot of people dont realize that if you have a ton of blocked shots thats not really a good thing. That means most of the time your perimeter defense is poor and people are getting to the rim.

Very poor basketball IQ. No one wants to make an impact w/out the ball. They all think the ball has to be in their hands in order to effective.

Every single word of this. shite we already have a gap in recruiting with him here. No forward or center depth and no current big man commits. Give this team a young solid power forward, a decent coach, and you make the tournament.

Literally the only people that somewhat move without the ball are Hayward and Blakeney sometimes because they want to get shots off... even when Sampson shoots it's always contested because he never moves to a better place to get a shot, he just sits and watches until he's like "oh shite they're throwing me the ball"
but their main offense is to set one ballscreen, then if that doesnt work, hold the ball until the shot clock is low and feed the post to force them into a bad shot
