I was born in 95, and living in GA , I really cant make it to alot of our games. Was able to go to our 11 SEC championship, and more recently our 10-0 loss to Bama..

But my question is this. Were asses in seats during the 90s run? TS has been barren recently and even on TV i can feel the lack of intensity.

I clearly came in at the right time to enjoy the glory days, however.. It looks like those wont be back for a few years.

Best talent left the state

Mediocre coaching

Dinardo brought back the magic in that he was able to keep some top in state talent, then hired Lou Tepper as D.C. Lost 9 games shortly thereafter and was fired.

In comes Saban and the rest is history.

I was at LSU in the mid-late '90's. Except for UF in '97, it was awful.

What you saw Saturday night was a remarkable impression of that 1999 team.

As for asses in seats, leaving wasn't as big a thing then and the stadium was smaller. But yeah...when it got bad under Hallman and diNardo, things thinned out.

Now...with our 100,000 seat stadium, and the penchant for leaving games early or not going at all, things are going to look anemic.

From 90 to 94, the stadium attendance progressively got worse. Think of how Tiger Stadium looks at pregame. If not completely full, it at least looks respectable. The way it looks now in the 3rd quarter was how it looked for pregame. The "bottom of the hill" was really just a few hundred fans (mostly band parents) waiting for the band. Not the thousands you see today. The tailgating was just those going to the game. When Dinardo got here, it started to get progressively better during the latter half of 95 to 97. Then 1998 happened with Lou Tepper, and back to the half full stadium it got.

Sure. I can speak from experience since I attended damn near fifty games in the 90's alone while I was a teen.

It was off and on. Early season easy wins were always full, then reality would set in when SEC started. I distinctly recall looking at schedules in June to pick out the "for sure" games LSU would win so I could see them. Was usually just a few. For example, we would have beaten a "Troy" in the 90s. LOL

After reality would set in, it was "Well lets go to the Bama game to see David Palmer or whoever". "Oh look, UF and so and so QB will be here in October, let's go see that guy play". Or even worse, "So and so from Louisiana, who committed to another SEC team, will be in TS to beat LSU's arse, let's go watch him play"

Every so often we would play a game close or upset someone. For the most part the fans were better, IMO.

1999 was a miserable season, attended all 3 wins. Atleast we beat an SEC team (Ark). Dont think that will happen this year.

I mean we may beat Tenn, but I doubt it. You think Tenn is worse than Troy?

Archer was in over his head and did not recruit well.
Hallman was in over his head and kind of recruited well.
Dinardo did well until the pressure got to him & he went nuts. He recruited well but he also recruited a bunch of problems.

I can really only speak from my time as a student 96-2000

There was optimism in 96 and 97 and we had great RBs. Stadium was much smaller then but was mostly full. People didn't leave like they did today. Tailgating was a bigger attraction and way better than today. First come first serve parking and spots pretty much anywhere on campus except really close.

Then in 98 we were top 10 and at the top of the world and then we lost to UGA I believe and it was never the same again until Saban came in. The losing started off slow but we played respectably but still finished 4 and 7. In 1999 the wheels came off.

This team we have reminds me more of 1999 than 1998 in its play but 1998 in its hype.

Really it's post Charlie McClendon. Stovall, Arnsparger, Archer, Hallman, Dinardo, then Saban. McClendon always had good teams, just not good enough to beat the Bear.

Stovall had 1, maybe 2 good years and then fell off the map.

Arnsparger did a very good job for 3, then quit leaving the reigns to Archer.

Archer had 1, maybe 2 good years and fell off the map.

Hallman, very bad 3 - 5 years. Really Bad. Like not want to watch Bad. Any game.

Along comes Dinardo. His teams played the big boys tough, but would lose to lesser teams. He was mildly successful for 3 - 4 years.

Saban comes next and you know the rest of the story.

back in those days, sometimes we were anxious to see if LSU got any receiving votes for top 25. We were hopeful for lame bowl games. Now I have no interest in any but top 5 or so bowls.

Arnsparger came in after Stovall and had 3 good years before leaving to become the AD at Florida. The thought was to hire his replacement from his staff at LSU to keep what Arnsparger had done going. That was Mike Archer, who I think was the youngest HC in the country when he was hired. Archer did keep the ship rolling for his first couple of years, but the recruiting tailed off significantly...eventually leading to his firing. LSU then hired Curley Hallman after his success at USM with Brett Favre. The recruiting and coaching hit rock bottom.

No. I became a season ticket holder in the late 80's early 90's. From about 1990 - 1994 it was EASY to get a ticket to an LSU game and you couldn't give away tickets if you had extra. If it was a day game the stadium was about 2/3rds full.

To put in in context, the best season during that time was 1993. LSU had shockingly beat #3 Alabama (at Bama). Going into the final game against Arkansas LSU was 5-5 and playing for a spot in the "Carquest Bowl". For the first time in a few years fans were somewhat excited...for the chance at the "Carquest Bowl!" Arkansas ended that hope quickly in a blowout of LSU.

Do not worry you are going to get too see just how bad it was. I was in college in the mid 90's and it was bad. This all falls on Alexander and Alleva because his buyout is so large we cannot afford to fire coach O
