Someone explain to me why Lange is not our Friday night starter.

Everyone agrees that Lange is our ace, right? You start your ace on Fridays. No one cares about seniority or honorary opening night starter bullshite. You start your ace the first game off the series In order to give your team the best chance to get that first game.
It's always been done that way as it should. From Nola to Gausman to Ranaudo to Tallet to Shipp to McDonald

It's one series. Mainieri changes things up throughout the season all the time.

Manieri goes with his vets sometimes. Lange will be the Friday night starter before SEC play.

Because he did not start on a Friday night

Calm your tits.
First game of the season, nerves are probably going to be rocky. PM went with the veteran.
I see no issue with it whatsoever.
Lange will be the Friday guy soon enough.

How about Poche coming off of that terrible World Series situation... And those throws to first. LSU needs Poche strong. Show support and confidence for him and show he's the man. I think it was a good move. Need for entire season.
SEC baseball is about winning series. 2 of 3. Standings aren't impacted but which two.

Actually, you are incorrect. It is usually done that way but there have been exception at LSU and there is a significant though less common school of thought on this when you have two high quality starters, say a 1a & 1b situation vs a 1 vs 2 situation.
The thinking goes like this 1b, particularly when he is on, is can beat most other teams aces. He starts game 1 giving you almost the same chance of winning vs their ace. 1a is typically the more consistent pitcher, as such he is almost a lock vs their #2. So what you have is a game 2 in which you either lock up the series or pull it even giving your team a chance to win it in game 3.
Not saying I agree with or like this thinking but I understand it. I think it is rooted in the idea that a lot of less consistent pitchers seem to play up to their competition and are more likely to give you a better game when they are the underdog. Not sure that works but some coaches do this in this situation.

CPM explained exactly why on the radio broadcast prior to the game.

I heard that Lang does not want to be the Friday starter. He is more comfortable as the Saturday starter.

Muscona said that PM always starts a vet on Friday of opening weekend as a nod to them. Lange will be the Friday starter going forward.

PM always goes with the vet the first game, regardless of where they'll end up in the weekend rotation throughout the year. Look at 2009, we won it all. Louis Coleman started the first game, Ranaudo was our Friday night guy.
Lang will pitch tonight and then for pretty much the rest of the season he'll be our Friday night arm.
