I honestly believe most people never had the thought that our beloved Tigers would be "rated" as high as they are thus far. Yes, they are capable yet as Tiger fans, we are familiar with high expectations being dashed. Living in Texas, I have truly enjoyed wearing my purple and gold around all of my Longhorn friends. My own daughter, a graduate of TCU and married to an Aggie, laments about my LSU rants.

As a freshmen in the GBFTL back the autumn of 1969 I watched my first LSU-AU game. the two teams had not met on the gridiron in over 26 years. On the first play from scrimmage, Bert Jones' cousin caught a 62 yard touchdown pass, We won 21-20. Up until that day, I had never heard of Auburn or Alabama Polytechnic Institute. What I remember the most was the the unbelievable hangover I had. I had spent the previous night reveling on Chimes Street as a "pre-homecoming" street dance. As I was marching during halftime an ABC camera man "zeroed" in me. I realized at that moment I was on national television. Later that night my parents called me. My dad told me I looked like shite.

I feel the Tigers (ours) will win this Saturday. I really do. I also believe Missouri will defeat Oklahoma and UNC will defeat "The U". as well. With that happening each of the "computer" polls will rank the Tigers as Number 1. It could result in the Tigers becoming number one on the BCS polls. The talking heads will begin to focus more on Coach Miles "genius". They will still call him a "Mad Hatter" and Lucky "SOB", but they will begin to paint a picture of LSU's amazing defense and rapidly improving offense. They will begin to unfold the mystery as to why JL has not started a football game this season. They will state that Coach Miles did not show his "true hand" until he arrived to the "meat" of his schedule. They will point out that LSU remains undefeated even after facing the toughest schedule in college football. They will point out how two of the teams defeated by the Tigers are poised to win their respective conferences. But they will still preach how Boise State and TCU along with their "cake" schedules are deserving of a CG bid as well. They will spew about how Oregon and their "juggernaut" is a force to be reckoned with and of course, we will hear a litany of praise for several teams in the Big Eleven. Finally we will hear that even though LSU has remain unscathed thus far, they still have to play the mighty Crimson Tide as well as the Black Bears and Pigs. We will still hear how the SEC is not as strong as it has been in the past and how it is declining. With a large dose of tongue in cheek sarcasm, we will be told to enjoy our time as number 1 as long as we can.

Finally, we will still have Negatigers ranting that their lives are so miserable and will be as long as CLM remains at the helm of the Tigers.

Well put and very true, but at the same time.. It wouldn't be called the "tiger rant" if we never had anything to "rant" about. It wouldn't be any fun if every year we just said, "You know, our team isn't perfect this year but we sure do have a good team. We'll only get better. We may have made a mistake but we'll learn from our mistakes." No matter how good a team is, they're never perfect. There are always things to fix and things to complain about. Although i agree with everything you just said, I also agree everyone should keep complaining about our flaws so it can get me through my work day that much faster!
