Some of you saw a different game

I don't get the optimistic views to last nights game. Looked like a typical Les game with slightly better QB play. No energy after we get a lead as usual. Mississippi State is a horrible team this year and LSU is by far more talented. Coaching continues to hold LSU back. Does anyone realistically believe this is a top 10 team?

not optimistic. I just recognized it was coached differently. after all this time that's a huge positive for me!

we beat them by about the same score as South Alabama beat them

We moved the ball well in the first half, and won. Sure the coaches could have done better but I find it hard to blame the coaches for this close game with two fumbles and the other team completing an onside kick. If LF7 holds on to the ball on that 4th down we go down the field and put it away for good, instead we give up two quick TDS and they almost beat us. This season is far from over but this team has already grown leaps and bounds since the Wisconsin loss.

Anyone who thinks the first half offense with Etling was the same old LSU offense is simply in denial. Almost 300 yards of offense. 19 first half passes, more than we typically throw in a whole game with Harris. 3 reverses, 2 of them passes. I can't help you if that's not different.
Then we shite the bed the 2nd half.

because you are blind to the improvements this team has made. you don't see them because you don't want to.
and MSU is not a horrible team this year.

You don't find any blame with the coaches on how we defended the onside kick? We didn't even look like we knew it was coming

Hey, an exception to the rule.
Somebody from central Louisiana with some sense and perception.

You lost me when you said slightly better QB play. Etling was fantastic. What a commanding presence he has! Rolls out the pocket under pressure and makes completions, runs for first downs - makes me afraid he's gonna hurt himself. Our Oline played better, but the stupid penalties and fumbles killed us. The kicking game still needs a lot of work.Punter was good. But -the second half we came out flat, I don't understand it at all!

I will never defend Peveto. I'm not sure what we did wrong but I'm certain it was something fundamental. That said it was a perfect kick and took a perfect bounce.

This should have been a timeout, yes. And there was a third down holding that cost us a first down, but even the most critical negatiger has to recognize this type of thing happens once a game to Bama too.
The number of trick plays bordered on insanity, but had a couple of them worked - and we hadn't lost to Wisconsin - we'd be discussing Lesticles today.
This team was significantly better on the eye test this week. Been to all three games and they looked better each game. Etling can play ball so a big problem seems to be resolved. Before the season (every year) we say 'If only we can get average QB play we have a chance.' Well, we have it. No one ever said 'With average QB play, it'll be like 2011 again!' So suck it up and let's get him fired when we actually lose games.

I mean this new explosive, brand new offense scored a whopping 23 points against the vaunted State D. Only one other team managed to put over 20 against that D and that was South Alabama

Bad field positions, fumbles, and some good plays by Moo St. On sides kick was perfect. We had two WR that had the ball bounce perfectly over their heads. Moo St players had the running momentum to let them get to the ball.
I'm encouraged by Etling, the OL has improved. They got hurt and still held together as a unit. Dupre in the slot was a good coaching move. LF still not at full speed. Uncharacteristic fumbles will be corrected.

My son-in-law said it perfectly...LSU is a work in progress. It's going to be that way all year so we either deal with or not watch.

Unfortunately, any differing of view points and I'll get labeled a pumper, but if our team comes down with a couple of catches and 2 less fumbles, its 27-35 to 3-6 against an SEC opponent in our 3rd game of the season with a guy who's never started in SEC before who's last start was over 2 years ago. Coaching has it's flaws, but they even had it together more so than usual last night. Normally, we don't notice all the players mistakes because the coaching gaffes dominate. Again, no means a fan of CLM, but our players did not do us any favors last night.

Thank you! The first line blocks the kick team, the second fields the kick. We learned that in middle school ball. No one had a clue out there.
Lot's of blame to go around for the second half (two stripped balls LF7?), and some pretty bad field position. Hopefully we can clean these up before next week.

Did you watch the game where we were backed up inside our 5, 10, 15 time after time and had decent drives getting the ball out of there that ended with fumbles or craziness? That had way more to do with a crappy appearing second half than anything else.
Did you watch the game where Etling may read after read? Where Dupree caught the ball again?

I agree we watched different games. I watched the one on espn2, apparently you didn't.

If you really think Etling was only slightly only better than Harris last night, I wanna see what you consider a good QB.
Etling played a damn good game last night. Damn good.
