Run lines are baseball's equivalent to a football point spread. In essence, if you're taking LSU at -1.5, you're betting that LSU wins by 2 or more runs.

If you bet on LSU to win by 2 runs or more, you get 130 profit on your 100 dollar investment. If you bet UF loses by a run or wins, you get 100 profit on a 185 dollar bet.

Runline: If you bet Florida (+1.5 runs) you have to lay $185 to win $100. If you bet LSU (-1.5 runs) you lay $100 to win $130.

Moneyline: If you bet on Florida straight up you lay $100 to win $115. If you bet on LSU straight up you lay $160 to win $100.

Over/Under: If you bet there will be more than 8 runs scored (by both teams) you lay $110 to win $100. If you bet there will be fewer than 8 runs scored by both teams you lay $130 to win $100.

The bottom line is, and I can't quite figure it out, is that LSU is a decent sized favorite in tonight's game.

I have friends that work at William Hill sports books in town. They've been taking in $$$ on LSU ever since the CWS started. Not that college baseball gets major action...but a lot of what they have gotten has been on LSU.

I am obviously in the minority who just can't understand why, based on the pitching matchup, the Tigers are the favorite. I like the Tigers in 3 and can even see us winning tonight; however, I just can't get my head around the betting line. We are not just a slight favorite tonight, we are a reasonably comfortable favorite tonight.

I guess that is reason #207 that I am not employed by Vegas to set the lines.

I completely agree with you. I'll be perfectly honest...I have a self imposed ban on betting games involving teams that I cheer for. Otherwise, Florida as a slight underdog tonight would be insanely tempting...and I expect the line to move more towards the Tigers as the day progresses.
