Gotta think his time will come soon to coach in college if he wants. Some good insight here on troubles players face.

quote:

Former LSU and NFL star center Kevin Mawae said Wednesday that he thinks the recent suspension of quarterback Anthony Jennings — and three other players — opens the door for other players, particularly backup quarterback Brandon Harris.

Coaching is an exhausting job that ambitious people are willing to do in order to reach the mountain top. Mawae is already on the mountain top. Virtually nobody who has already made it big is willing to pay the price of climbing the coaching ladder. He would have to start near the bottom. All of his credentials amount to very little for coaching.

But to your other point, yes, it was very good advice from Mawae.

Huh? Guy is a future NFL Hall of Famer. I'm not saying you'd hire him to be a head coach for his first gig. On the other hand, it's not like he needs to first prove himself as the quality control coach at South Central Arizona State.

I agree. I think the coaches were reluctant to give the car keys to BH6, but now their hand is somewhat forced.

Well, no shite? Is this especially enlightening?

So the takeaway is that if the player ahead of you is arrested/suspended, it opens the door for you?

Stunning.

He needs to get cracking on the cure for cancer. Maybe he can figure that out, too.

I think he needs to swallow a little pride and join a university as a lower level assistant coach. There is no shame in that.

Playing at a high level does not equal coaching at a high level.

With that said, he really is a great guy with a passion for the game, and I hope that he gets a chance soon.

I'd love to have him on the LSU staff.'

Kevin knows both sides of the fence and draws from his wisdom. coaching aside, the administration could draw some huge value with letting him periodically speak with the team. his street cred is top notch.

And was, by far, the best player on the worst teams in 100 years of LSU football.

When tRant says it, meh.

When Mawae says it,

Some people just have more impact when they state the obvious.

Kevin was already serving as a volunteer assistant when he lived in Nashville. So he's not opposed to working his way up. If you know him and his family, they are about as hard-working and salt of the earth as they come.

I really hope most of you realize that these players of elite status are so naturally talented that a lot of things they are capable of doing is hard for them to past down as a coach. Just because you know how to play the game doesn't mean you are as capable of translating that to teaching young players. Just my 2 cents

I'll take my chances learning to paint from an artist than from a person that can't paint. There is no guarantee, but at least they know what the finished product is supposed to look like.

I don't buy this shite or that an outstanding NFL career doesn't mean shite when you looking to hire a position coach. I went to HS with a guy that had a decent Ivy League career as a WR and was a backup WR and returned punts in the NFL for one year. He got a job coaching WRs in the NFL at 23, coaching a future Hall of Fame QB at 26, an NFL offensive coordinator at 29 and became an NFL head coach at 32.
